    4.3 Engine coupler issue?

something made the couple go bad or warp. General wear? Maybe.... Over decades, I have owned several MCs and only replaced one coupler. While motor is out, drill a few holes into transom to check for ROT. You can easily fill holes with 5200 and sleep well later on. Good luck.

    Erratic tach, misfire.

If you are still having issues, run motor at night. With a rubber glove move things like wires, etc. You should see sparks. I did one time. Sometimes plugs go out prematurely, but very rare.

Alpha One II grinds in reverse

I had interrupt failure that shops could not cure. Buy a new one. Set idle speed IN THE WATER and in forward and try. They are a pain. Yours appear to work too well.

    Dean's List gets another motor

Can the base of engine work? Two to bolts under engine are rusted and can

you can never totally protect an outdrive if it stays in water, particularly salt water. All metal is (-) grounded by default. The big BLACK wire coming from battery should be attached to motor block.

Engine dies after 30 seconds of running

Possible carb bowl runs out and can't get fuel? Make sure mud-Dobers haven't clogged fuel air vent. Extra fuel hose in 5 gal tank to test for possible line/tank blockage. You will have to be creative in supplying an additional fuel line. . If it runs ok, then you have blockage or electric fuel...

    4.3 Engine coupler issue?

I had a similar problem due to the fact that my engine compartment was restricted for my partner to make sure all rear engine mounts and PARTS stayed in alignment. This problem happened installing Chevy V8s. We kept dislodging leather washers and didn't see that they had been dislodged. Pray...

port side exhaust elbow over heating.

Not clear in all the post if motor is saltwater cooled. If original risers and exhaust manifolds, replace. They are way too old. At least I'd pull all exhaust manifolds and risers, soak in muriatic acid and acetone test them. Remember that the inside of your block may be just as rusted. 1995 is...

1984 Mercruiser GM 350 engine no start, not even trying to fire

did you replace starter with one with incorrect spin? If starter was just rebuilt, then the spin should be the same as before for the motor's turn. I had a pair of 351 Windsors in MC inboards. We carelessly rebuilt one motor w/o changing piston position for slinging oil. Complicating was the...

95 Mercruiser 4.3 water in oil

22 years old? Was hatch open so that there was a possibility of rainwater getting into motor? Water over dam now, but before pulling parts, you should have performed compression test. It might have told you where to begin. That old of motor, I suspect it is time for tear down, and totally...

5.7L rebuild and upgrade to vortec heads

it seems to me if I was going for VT heads for a little more power, I'd stroke the motor as well, since a rebuild is being considered. BUT, if motor is saltwater cooled, I'd wait and when it finally gave up the ghost, I'd pitch it.
