    Deckmate Lounge Seats

Well, here they are installed. I had to glass in 1.5" bases to allow for where the sloped hull meets the deck (didn't want to cut the seat bases). The bases are surprisingly sturdy. The color of the seats isn't a perfect match, but it sure is close. I still need to remove the protective...

    Dog Pee on lawn..

Here are some pics of my lawn after almost a couple months of the sugar treatment (3 treatments to date). It still looks bad in spots but overall it looks way better. Sorry no before pics, but you could see a lot of dirt where nothing would grow in the old brown spots. Since the lawn is so...

    1986 Sea Ray Seville Restoration

Well, my temporary terry cloth seat covers lasted almost 4 years before fading and ripping. I finally broke down and ordered some Deckmate replacements. They seem to match the existing vinyl pretty well. I have run into a couple problems prior to installing them. First of all, when...

    Reuse gear lube and seals?

I split the drive, replaced a couple seals and put everything back together, including filling with new gear lube, a few weeks ago. It looks like the shift shaft coupler is off a tooth (or spline), so I have to take the drive back apart (drive has not been back on the boat). Would it be safe...

    Deckmate Lounge Seats

I am finally going to replace the lounge seats in my 1986 19' Sea Ray BR. These Deckmate back-to-backs are very affordable, but I am not familiar with the brand. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pair-Of-Deck...4cfb63&vxp=mtr I like that the red on these matches my interior. Most of the red in Wise...

More torque for my GMC Sierra 4.8?

Hi Everyone. My tow vehicle is a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 Extra cab with a 4.8L engine and 35" tires. It does great towing my 19' Sea Ray for 95% of our trips. However, it struggles on our few long distance trips through the mountains. Even with tow/haul on, it struggles on the long steep inclines...

Suggestions for 28 to 40 foot Cabin Cruiser

Well, my 2 daughter's just finished their junior year of college yesterday. That means that I only have one more year until I am no longer flat broke and can get my next boat. The wife and I would like to get something about 28 to 40 feet and keep it in a slip at the local harbor (Oceanside)...

    Is My Bell Housing Cracked?

I changed some seals in my outdrive and was getting ready to reinstall when I noticed what looks like a crack in the bell housing. It is a line that goes about 90% around the bell housing and is indented in some parts and raised on others. The bellows clamp is on the other side of this line...

    Breezeworks 470 site?

Does anyone know what happened to Breezeworks.net? It was a great place for Merc 470 parts and help.

    Alpha 1 gear lube leak

Thanks for the help Marc. That is good news. Yes, I pressure tested the drive before I split it and it lost all pressure in about an hour. I then tested just the upper and lower units separately and no loss of pressure in either one. I just assumed it was the upper drive shaft seals because...

    Alpha 1 gear lube leak

Then I looked into the upper unit and saw this. Crap, looks like it is time for upper drive shaft seals. The seal was mangled up there along with an old o-ring. This looks like some of the harder seals to replace. Any chance I just need the lower seal?

    Alpha 1 gear lube leak

Split the drive and pressure tested the lower unit. I actually got to use one of my favorite tools (mechanical pencil...I know...sad... but I am an accountant) to plug the oil passage. No leaks.

How Long Do You Trust an Older Tow Vehicle For Long Trips?

Hi Everyone. My tow vehicle is a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500, Extra cab, 4.8, 2wd with 116,000 miles. Runs great and had all scheduled maintenance. My boat (see sig.) weighs 2500 lbs. plus another 1200 lbs. for the trailer. Even though I only have a 4.8, you can hardly tell the boat is back there...

    Bass Lake, CA?

I am thinking of taking the family to Bass Lake this year for some tubing, wake boarding, and fishing. Have any of you been there? What did you think? It sure looked great in The Great Outdoors with john Candy and Dan Akroyd.

Time For a New Air Compressor

Well, my old 3 gallon HF air compressor is finally dying after 12 years. I am looking for a replacement and may be using the new one to spray gel or paint in the future. What are the minimum specs I should be looking for? Thanks for the help.

    Alpha 1 gear lube leak

Just changed the impeller and oil seal about 2 months ago. I have run it about 6 hours with no leaks. It sprung a leak just sitting in the driveway yesterday (hasn't been started in a few weeks). It is leaking out the weep/drain hole on the starboard side. I will be taking it apart this...

    Merc 470 Fuel Pump Problem?

Hi Clyde, The pump is a Seachoice Goldflo low pressure (4 - 5.5 PSI) pump made by Facet. I just picked it up at my local Marina since I was in a hurry to get back on the water. iboats carries several Seachoice pumps that should work and they are cheaper than what I paid. Here are a couple...

    New Back-to-Back Lounge Seats

I thought about having new seat covers made, but it looks like it will be cheaper to just buy new seats here on iboats. Does anyone have experience with the Wise seats --...

    Rotten Fish Smell

What is the best way to get rid of rotten fish smell in a boat? I recently started using the family bow rider for fishing. I unknowingly left an 8" baitfish in the bilge (had the bait tank in the boat) after our last trip. It was sitting in about 1/2" of water in the bilge, tightly covered for 8...
