Merc 470 3.7 Warm Start Troubles

Re: Merc 470 3.7 Warm Start Troubles Thanks to many suggestions on this and other threads. Today I wrapped the fuel line in 2 layers of 1/2" fiberglass pipe insulation (temp rating up to 300 F) and then wrapped it with a couple layers of the reflective heat tape I used last time. I am going...

DIY Bait Tank -- will this work?

I am finally going to take my 19' Sea Ray BR out to the local kelp beds (less than a mile off shore) and I am constructing a a bait tank for the 1st time. I am 45 years old, but very much a rookie saltwater fisherman. I was hoping that some of the experts would tell me if my plan will work...

    Easily Removable Swim Platform

As you can see from the pics, I am about 18" short of the storage space I need on my side yard -- my pool equipment is in the way on one side. I have been removing one of the swim platforms every time to get it to fit. It can be a pain removing 9 bolts and pulling the platform every time I...

Which Impeller Kit? -- Alpha One with no Serial Number

Re: Which Impeller Kit? -- Alpha One with no Serial Number So true. When I took it apart today, I noticed the fitting in the the upper unit where the water tube inserts was partially melted. Had to buy that assembly too. Not sure how close I was to failure, but I am sure glad I opened it...

Which Impeller Kit? -- Alpha One with no Serial Number

Re: Which Impeller Kit? -- Alpha One with no Serial Number Just received this kit (18-3207D) and it appears to be for a much smaller drive. Called Sierra and they suggest 18-3217. Can I use the 3207D or should I return and get 3217?

Take Entire Drive Off to Change Impeller?

I read in another thread, that it is better to remove the entire outdrive when changing the impeller. I am going to change mine myself for the 1st time this week (it has been changed regularly, but not by me). I recently had the drive off for lube and bellows replacement, but was planning to...

Royal Purple Transmission Fluid in Tow Vehicle

Does anyone use Royal Purple Max ATF in their tow vehicle? I am just wondering if it is worth the extra money -- about double the others. My tow vehicle is a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 with 103,000 miles on the 4.8. My boat weighs about 3,000 pounds.

    Power Change

I have a 1986 Sea Ray 19' BR with a 3.7 merc and alpha one drive. I plan to keep the boat for a long while after replacing the transom, stringers, deck, and upholstery a couple years ago. I have not had any problems with my engine, but have not seen anyone with anything positive to say about...

1980 Rinkerbuilt Renovation (Paint and Powder)

Re: 1980 Rinkerbuilt Renovation (Paint and Powder) Sea Rays are the same. You can take the seat cushions and set them on plastic or teak brackets to make a decent sized sun deck. You can see the teak brackets in mine (before refinishing). They would be very easy to duplicate.

    $25 tarp vs $500 cover

Re: $25 tarp vs $500 cover I use a tarp also. My $300 cover faded and leaked after about a year. With all the time I put in to restore this boat, I was not going to use anything that would let a drop of water in. I buy a $21 tarp at Harbor Freight, which is only $17 after the 20% off coupon...

Merc 470 3.7 Warm Start Troubles

Re: Merc 470 3.7 Warm Start Troubles I put the tape on the entire portion of the fuel line between the carb and the fuel pump. I used about 3.5 feet. I put an extra vertical strip where the line is only about 1/4" away from the intake manifold.
