    when i try to tighten it, it will get snug but then when i tighten it more it just spins and gets lose like its stripped...

    Replaced impeller, still not peeing. 71 merc 800

    im almost 100% sure i did it all right. replaced the impeller, and some gaskets. but it still wasnt peeing. i felt the exhaust plate and it started getting warm. when i turned it off. it sounded like water gurgling in the tube, so i would think it was working? how do i go about looking for clogs?

    why does it say fleetmaster on the lower unit? theres numbers stamped too. 1623-6051 motor serial number 3056287 if its a standard lower, why put that on there?

    Spark at plugs when key is turned once

    Im trying to figure out why my 71 merc 800 isnt starting. So i checked for spark. Even turning the key BACK to the upright position made if spark. Basically, anytime you turned the key it would spark. but i also did while cranking. Is this normal?

    is it ok to keep the lower unit in water for a week?

    Not apart, but just up to the vents. i have it in a tub of water while working on the top of the motor. a bit of a stupid question....but i didnt know if prolonged submersion was bad.

    Question about Spark Plug wire order

    this is a total noob question.... my spark plug wires are labeled 1-4. There is also a number stamped near each spark plug hole. The wires go from 1 at the top to 4 at the bottom, but they dont match up with whats stamped on the block. Is this normal? I never changed them and will be firing it...

    Better to tow in 2wd or 4wd

    Does it make a difference? Is one better than the other? I would think 4wd would be better since its sharing the load with all 4's instead of just the rear.

    i wasnt sure what to get, so my friends dad told me to use the same stuff he has. i cant remember the brand. but its a synthetic lower unit gear lube. he has a tiller. mine is a 71 merc 800. will i be okay?
