    trim cylinder issue

I did the ones on my old Cobra a couple of years ago and as long as you can get the end cap off it’s not a hard job. Parts cost was $52 per cyl.

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

Agreed Little stones don’t break em but they all oxidize after a while. I bought a set of Crown aftermarket headlights for my 07 Grand for about $240 instead of paying $600 for the pair OEM. My old 98 Grand was converted over to the European style ECE H4 halogen lamps with glass lenses about 20...

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

Keep in mind your rebuilds are probably better than any boat you can buy brand new today. So yeah it's expensive but the time you take is what makes it better! Even my kind of half-assed resto on my old '88 F/W 19 years ago has held up well!

    2000’s Bayliner 175 I/O

I wish I could have an alu boat here but in my salt pond keeping it in the water it's a risk, and you don't see many at all. About engines, I think it's a shame there are no more GM inline 6s, these were good engines and an inline 6 is naturally balanced unlike an inline 4 or a 90* V6, although...

No dipstick on 1989 era 3.0L?

They do make a version with the aluminum bowl but after a year in salt air they can be !@#$%^ to get off. I think that Racor filters are the best but extra gaskets add more possible leak points, and then there's the hassles with removing the bowl. I just use the OEM style ones like I have for...

No dipstick on 1989 era 3.0L?

Just wait till your vehicle gets older and has a few auto trans fluid leaks, that climb underneath and add fluid right next to the cat converter will make you full of rage toward the fools who made that choice. "They never leak" yeah right. As for me my 2 old Jeeps have dipsticks. How quaint...

Hockey is the sport where they have to have thick plexiglass between the players and spectators!

    4.3 crankshaft/housing oil leak - next steps?

I remember that, the pan defect was putting pressure on the plastic timing cover, but metal can flex, the plastic can but eventually cracks. I don't like this trend on modern engines, plastic valve covers (warping, they get brittle and leak) nor oil pans, same thing, then when the leak they are...

was thinking of changing over to a Delco EST system from points....

Another thing that concerned me, the steepness of the EST advance curve. For the total timing advance to not be too high; for the V6, it can only take about 18-20* of total timing advance. From what I've seen that means you wind up having to set the base timing pretty retarded, like 2* ATDC, vs...

was thinking of changing over to a Delco EST system from points....

True, changing over would have taken away some of my Luddite pleasure.

was thinking of changing over to a Delco EST system from points....

that's my conclusion! I have spare OEM advance springs for the Prestolite and a couple of sets of points and condensers. Also have a complete spare Prestolite! They were decent units, very simple mechanical advance distributors.

was thinking of changing over to a Delco EST system from points....

And I saw Michigan Motorz selling the complete kit described as https://michiganmotorz.com/4-3l-delco-voyager-est-marine-electronic-distributor-kit/ I asked them is this genuine GM or aftermarket, they did respond quickly and said it is Sierra aftermarket....so....seeing as how some aftermarket...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

We have natural gas, I do like it for that reason, but still sniff round the basement all the same lol. BTW I was surprised how fast PSEG Long Island got people back on line after the storm. At the height there were 18,000 families affected but by the next day it was way down, to a few thousand...

    SNOW Common Sense

I think extra weight from a static load (boat sitting with snow on the cover) is way different than a dynamic load (boat bouncing down the road). You can add rollers to spread the load if you feel you must use a roller trailer. Here they are preferred over bunk trailers due to wide tidal swings...

    Electronic steering

Agreed. I still haven’t given up my points ignition lol. Luddite-ism is hard to shake! I thought of getting the Delco EST and then had thoughts “what if the original modules go NLA and then all we have is parts store junk!”…. However I am willing to swap My old Quadrajet for an Edelbrock 1409...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

If I wind up staying here and not moving south a few things I’m going to add: Whole house generator to run off natural gas; I currently have a B&S 5,000 watt unit that will run essentials but have to have enough gas in hand in case of an outage. I could probably convert the Briggs to run on Nat...

Did you pull out the fuel pick up tube and see if there's a clogged screen on the end of it? What can happen is this: some of these pick up tubes have a screen on the end and some don't (if you look closely at mine above you can see it doesn't have the screen). If you don't pull out the pick up...
