    Flooding...

I am really old. I didn't know that MCs now require Cats?????

    Flooding...

Indeed! Boaters in NW Florida are repowering with OB as well. Too much maintenance on I/Os, not to mention safety concerns. However, on my restoration, I remembered all my years of tragedies and added safety redundancies and alarms whenever possible. When fumes or water enter bilge, loud...

    Flooding...

and one 2000 g/ph bilge pump with a LOUD alarm. One "aw-sh..." will wipe out fifty "at-a-boys."

    Drive Lube Bottle Cap

I am just getting old... His photo threw me off. Mine looks a bit different. I have two leads coming out for alarm and one lube hose. I can't figure why his has (what appears) three lube hoses, or photo's perspective is confusing me and what I assume are hoses are actually leads??? I cannot...

    Flooding...

Don't feel too bad. Many of us old timers have made similar mistakes. If fresh water, your are lucky. Back in the day and having friends and professionals working in a saltwater environment, if flooding occurred, they'd pull everything as best that they could and submerge in fresh water and then...

    Drive Lube Bottle Cap

I assume aluminum reservoir? I have never seen one made of aluminum, only plastic/synthetic. I guess I am really old school?

    Drive Lube Bottle Cap

My lube reservoir started leaking near hose connection. Hose was fatigued too and o-ring connection was not tightened. I guess vibration... Former owner didn't have sensor wires connected, but I have not discovered why. Try tighten or replacing o ring and check for fatigued hose.. Just a...

Tilt Not Working on MerCruiser Outdrive

Having a saltwater MC boat that got very wet with sea spray, that always managed to drip down onto my trim "noids" and ruin them, I gambled by covering them with a piece of vinyl and never lost another one. A lesson for me...

    Wrong New Prop Or What?

I would expect carburetor needs to be adjusted for high altitude?

5.7L 1984, Rough idle at start up, then ok after a minute or so

Quads are bad about leaking or dripping. Been there. I also had a plug leak one time and just pitched carb. But, that was back in days when they were a dime a dozen. If all else tests fails, boater may have to install an Elderbrock (sic).

    Channel Lock Stuck In Distributor?

You need to mark distributor and rotor positions best that you can and remove. I suspect a piece has broken off and may destroy distributor bearing surface.

engine stalls when shifting back on forth a lot

and it is very important to make sure RPM idle is within specs, while OD is in water and under load.

Tilt Not Working on MerCruiser Outdrive

Clean battery cables first. Then, manually jump just to be sure that throttle switch is not problem. If rams will not go down but only up, I suspect you will need piston rebuild. I had to rebuild both of mine but my boat is an 86 and heavily salt water used. Salt water and aluminum don't play well.

    Engine Alignment?

and OMC may be different? I prey for boater that it isn't. Good diagram!

    Engine Alignment?

It is important that the transom thickness be within specs. and parallel. Example: One side can't be 1.5 inches thick at top and 1" at bottom. I believe that tolerances are +- 1/16" but I may be incorrect. You can consult the Adults section and you may be able to find exact tolerances. LOL

    5.0

You might want to buy a second one for a spare and you might replume oil switch/sender from spin on oil filter to next to the one by distributor via a ss (for strength) T section. The one by filter is a pain to access while at sea.

5.7L 1984, Rough idle at start up, then ok after a minute or so

yep... I assume that you know how to adjust valves. Pull valve covers and watch rocker arms at cold start up and compare them as motor warms. It will be messy. But, at least this procedure may give you peace of mind.

5.7L 1984, Rough idle at start up, then ok after a minute or so

If you can't wiggle wires with glove on, run it at night with muffs on. Perhaps you can see wires arcing? Just a thought...
