    MERCRUISER BELL HOUSING

More than once. If you can get into clean metal it will work. You will have to grind a bunch! He should try or search market for used or new.

    Transom plate question

UR 100% correct! I built an aluminum tuna towner one time using MIG w/o spool gun and went through about 100 tips-Like pushing wet noodles through a cat's butt. Bird nests too!!!

Can I Add a Trim Position Guage?

Does it have switch on right side of OD or is OD switch there but it is just defective or has one and no gauge indicator at helm to provide you with the trim angle. A photo may help. Regardless, I suspect you may have to plumb wiring by removing complete OD. I am surprised it didn't come with...

    No Start, but should

"Pop" in exhaust??? Sounds like distributor went in incorrectly and out of time. Been there too! Pull valve cover and plugs and bring #1 cylinder up (blows your finger out of sp hole). Your timing mark on harmonic balancer should be in line with timing tab 0 mark. You may have to bump starter...

Except you will always need an 18 MM and they are seldom in package deals.

    Cracked spark plug porcelain-timing?

Yes, I have cracked them by binding them up against exhaust manifold w/o using a U joint on the end of a 5/8" deep well. Not a lot of room. I have also cracked them by getting lazy and installing exhaust manifold w/o removing plugs. Too much weight will crush plugs and you will slip!!! I later...

    Trim not going down

My switches are sealed in top of shifter/throttle arms (plastic caps). And, they are old. I am afraid to try to pry out (if I could), unless I absolutely have to . So far, they haven't been an issue or failing, but sooner or later salt spray will get into them and develop corrosion. My Alphas...

Alpha One - Stainless Upper Steering Pin or Not?

Cup brush it, then OSPHO and then good primer and top coat. Yours are nicer than my Bravos.

    Shift cable adjustment

maybe a counter rotating drive but I'd bet that you missed something. That OD keyway, I BELIEVE only has a 90 degree arc between reverse and fwd. You will need a buddy to do the shifting while you watch keyway. Precisely in the middle of arc is neutral. My Alphas always made some sort of...

    New to boating, first restoration

I learned that if you drill a 1/4-1/2" drill bit into wood and black crud comes back, that means you have lots of work ahead of you.

Opinions on shop's quoted Bravo 3 maintenance cost

Get manuals, search this forum for solutions and keep your money! MC are easy to work on and parts are reasonably priced. On Bravo 1s, I can remove the OD in less than 30 minutes (scary). I assume your water pick up is via a through hull and may be difficult to access? I'd keep my 1300 bucks...

1969 Mako cut and gut project by Lectro88

It's been my experience that the Marine stuff is straight or flat. BCX, CDX, etc, not so much. Sometimes the crap that is not 100% flat can be a nightmare to put into place and encapsulate. If you are rebuilding a transom for an I/O, you may run into voids near your I/O cut out. I have always...

Is my boat polyester or epoxy?

I don't knew any marine paint that will not stick to poly or epoxy resins. Good marine paints will be 2 parts. Automotive acrylic or polyurethanes will work good too, but poly or epoxy surfaces must be prepped to mfg's recommendations. "Wax on and wax off!"
