    its rated at a 40hp based on the overall lenght and the beam / height of the transom and you cant change that adding more HP to a jon boat is a recipe for death.

    use a remote start button with the key in the on position. you can be right there next to the motor, press the remote start button, see the dwell meter and read it, adjust as needed. in/out and done in under 5 minutes.

    you cant put muffs on the 9.8. the water intake is on the bottom of the anti-cav plate just behind the prop. it has to be run in a bucket later 7.5's and 9.8's have the pee hole on the starboard side, running with a hose to the bottom cowl. if it was me, I would just replace the raw water...
