    remanufactured powerhead break in procedure

Two different theories.... My uncle was a true motorhead and outboard guy. Learned a lot from him. I've always stuck to his rule and my outboards go a long time. Either way, good oily mix and no full speed until hour down with your hours. Or, buy an E-tec and their already broke in when you...

    remanufactured powerhead break in procedure

My uncle, former Evinrude dealer always said to vary the throttle as well. Do not keep it at one speed for more that 60 seconds.

Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

The last outboard machine shop closed their doors last year in our area. You will have to look long and hard on where to send and parts that need machining.

Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

Yes I live in Seattle, the Washington state/Oregon area has tons of outboards. Should be a fairly easy find.

Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

Odds are in your favor if someone is selling a motor or just a gearcase it's probably not bad. If it sounds and smells fishy...that's all you need to know. No one would probably deny you a quick vac test....compression...yada yada

Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

I would get a mid 80's 70hp JohnnyRude. Excellent motor. In my area there is plenty. IMHO, it's way better than a 50 Starcrafts are good boats and it can handle it. Better to be slightly over power than to be under.

    '96 Evinrude 200 wouldn't rev past 4k RPM

Yes, and if everything looks good than it's a corroded ground or your pp is going. Sounds like you dropped one really. Salt water motor?

Spark GAP test. 7/16 with a nice blue arc.... Testers are inexpensive. OEM parts?

Your first message said, " when I tighten the recoil" what were you referring to? So it's an electric start?

1981 35hp evinrude. What to do next.

Okay, still had the last harness for an 1981 35....not sure why but this is 3 that I've redone. I'm thinking maybe was hooked up backwards once but who knows. It's what's under the tape. This one ran but would cut out at high speed.

1976 johnson recoil start 15 hp

The wd-40 goes in where the rope goes. Grab the rope handle, pull out the rope and squirt it in the hole. Fill that sucker then work it in and out. Get full of crap and you can't pull it over fast enough. Big arm motor! Starting fluid starts it without as much effort but is bad for the...

    Loses power at 5000 rpms

Back of the head....sensor coming off the top and typically a tan wire. Usually there is a rubber cover you slide off to revel a knife connector...I stab a pick in there and ground it to a clean ground. With the key on the alarm horn should blair. Sender or horn...I find the horn fails the most.

1981 35hp evinrude. What to do next.

Agreed, but points and condensers vrs pp and gearcase are the two biggest differences. Older ones slightly more finicky. Books will always be good but there's SO much online now....schematics and advice. That and I was poking fun at Crosbyman. 🤗🤓
