[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Not really . . . more hazardous to leave it off.

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Not worried about the imperfections . . . there will be time in the next off-season to make things pretty. Meanwhile . . . I checked in with my re-power guy and some of the parts for the re-power are coming later than expected, which gives me a few more days to do finishing touches. Today was...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

    I took a picture and drew a straight line along the keel. . . . not really a hook. . . maybe some unevenness . . .

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I thought that it might have a slight downward angle to it. Maybe an 1/8" of an inch . . . But I have not put a straight edge on it to check. If it does, it will be deemed a feature (stern lift) rather than a defect. :ROFLMAO:

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Gelcoat day . . . My first time spraying gelcoat  I put a coat of VE primer on a couple of days ago and today did the gelcoat. 3 layers, each done about 1 hour apart. The final coat had the Duratec hi-gloss and the surface wax. I used nearly a gallon of gelcoat and a quart of...

I got things on the helm station finished up in preparation for the re-power shop to install the Honda & Optimus stuff. Hopefully everything will fit as planned. .

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I met with the re-power guy yesterday . . . A couple of tweaks to the helm instrumentation . . . . . A perfect storm of Honda, Veratron, Optimus, and Garmin . . . it might all actually work :ROFLMAO:

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Today was supposed to be a rainy day according to the weather forecasts. So, I planned to do the electrical work, given that the boat has the camper canvas up. Of course, it was bright & sunny, but I did the electrical stuff anyway, taking a break from the block party. The...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I never liked to do drywall. Anyway . . . everyone grab your sanding blocks . . . there is a 'block party' going on at my house. :ROFLMAO:

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I just confirmed with the re-power shop that the boat is going in on June 15th. I also got some information that helped finalize (hopefully) the instrumentation layout . . . . . I bought the Veratron round gauges to replace the SmartCraft gauges from the Mercruisers. My plan is to put some...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

No, the naval architect and I went through that. The stiffeners are not in the flow path on plane, and at his suggestion I reduced them by 1/3 just to make sure of any low speed issues. .

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I'm hoping to have the boat over to the re-power shop next week. I'm not sure what the turn-around will be to get the engines rigged, but I hope to be in the water about Mid-July.

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

An afternoon of fairing compound. . . this is the vinyl ester fairing compound that I got from a supplier in CT. It is good for below the water line, etc. . . I have not done much fairing compound in my days, and it is times like this that I wish I made a mold instead of a one-off . . . 🤪...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

It's going . . . The bottom seam is all filled in and glassed, and the entire pod is sanded in preparation for fairing compound (VE fairing compound). . . . I'll be doing the fairing compound today and perhaps sanding it smooth on Friday (6/5/2026)

    Boat purchase

Keep looking . . . the right boat will find you. Used boat shopping is about managing imperfections and making compromises.

    Boat purchase

Who typically pays ? . . . It depends. If you are getting the boat through a broker/marina, they often (but not always) cover the cost of the haul-out for inspection as part of their selling fee to the seller. If you are buying directly from the owner, you are the one who usually pays all...
