    50TLRB Tilt Relay Mystery

I believe your right. Having just ordered a relay from the local auto parts store for $13. On closer inspection, what I thought was original wiring was actually spliced in. Looks like that same relay is used in a lot of cars. At worst, I'm out 13 bucks

    50TLRB Tilt Relay Mystery

So, my tilt went out for lifting the motor, down still worked so I suspected the relay. There were two so I switched them and sho nuff up worked. Now the problem, all the parts diagrams I look at show this relay for a 50TLRB But this is what I have, (I like the fuse) The only marking on the...

    Old Outboards ????

Prices vary by location so I can only say what I would value them at. As for the 1975, thats a little old for my taste, still uses points instead of a CDI but assuming it really is in good shape and runs well maybe a hundred or two. Now as to the 25HP, thats a nice motor and in good shape I...

    Aggravating gasket

So, the moral of this story is I gotta get me sumathis.

    Aggravating gasket

The green arrows show where the gasket was crimped. The other picture shows the carb body and how it (should) line up with the gasket. And that brown residue may have been some sort of contact cement. The thing is I just didn't want to believe people could be so sloppy even if they did re-use...

    Aggravating gasket

What I didn't mention was on the bowl side the gasket lays in a groove which should make it impossible to move once the screws are tight. I really was expecting someone who has rebuilt this model carb to chime in and say they have seen the same thing. Otherwise, I suppose it's just coincidence...

    Aggravating gasket

So, I think this is the 4th carb now (3 different motors) that I have seen the gasket misaligned like this. My first impression was just sloppy work but now I'm wondering if there could be something in the design of the carb that causes this to happen from some pressure. The red arrow shows the...

    Aggravating gasket

A lot of you will know this gasket at first sight I bet. Yamaha 2 stroke 40-50hp. Aggervating thing. Seems whenever I get a motor where someone cleaned the carbs, if it's this gasket it wasn't put in right and got pinched and out of place. Now I know you can hold a gasket in place using a...

    Pitting/corrosion on jon boat bottom

Just my opinion, but once the boat is clean just use it. I don't think your doing yourself any favors with all that sanding ect.

Replacing water pump seals 50HP TLRB

Oh, and I have a complaint. Why do they call it a water pump housing when part #21 is the real water pump housing. They should call it driveshaft seal housing or upper seals housing or something appropriate. I'm going to file a complaint, a Formal complaint. Let's see, what did I do with the...

Replacing water pump seals 50HP TLRB

Thanks 99, that's what I was afraid of, I already bought the seals and O ring thinking that housing could be re-used. Oh well, live and learn. I was just getting ready to post asking if the seals go into that housing and you answered my question.

Replacing water pump seals 50HP TLRB

Haven't done this model and under the water pump and above the seals is this plastic/rubbery part. How do I get it out without buggering it up and if I do does it matter?

    Pitting/corrosion on jon boat bottom

Get everything out of the boat that could cause corrosion from acid or dissimilar metals. Give the boat a good wash with water and dish soap. Lightly brush if you want but don't worry about getting the corrosion off as it can actually make a protective barrier against further corrosion. Once...

Cooling Water Path through 2 Stroke Yamaha Outboard

I didn't think to see how much water was coming out of the lower unit before I started this repair. Knowing what I know now, I see your point. What I had was a strong flow out the tell tail that turned to boiling hot water. That made me look to the T-stat which, upon inspection, could in no way...

Cooling Water Path through 2 Stroke Yamaha Outboard

That's along the lines of what I want to do, only I want to go back and forth both ways maybe even getting a shop-vac in on the action. Afterwards, I thought I'd put the lower unit back on and run the motor in a tub of vinegar and detergent for a while before repeating the process. I just want...
