Tinkering on the 4.3l this winter...

225-230 is a fair estimate. As mentioned closest spec merc engine would be the 4 bbl reman at 225 hp. Should be a nice punch over the 2 bbl 190 hp you have now. would be careful of thinking the intake alone is going to add too much HP. Unless the cam is done or the higher ratio rockers, just...

    Mercruiser 120 poor starting

Would seem based on this it is not getting fuel is fuel getting to the carb. If it is dig into the carb. I recently put a 4 bbl edlebrock back on my 65 pontiac. It ran perfectly when I removed it two years ago. I inverted the carb to get the gas emptied out of the bowls, put it back in the box...

    Prop Selection - Bayliner 175

That is pretty much right on what I did with my 3.0 boat. If your tach is accurate you are better off being slightly under propped like this. A tad above wot range isn’t gonna hurt. i suspect for water sports 15” is to low in pitch , if you need more holeshot try a 17” and watch the over rev...

    Timing check 350 5.7l Carb

yes some engines had no knock sensor. TB4 had no knock sensor at all. TB5 some engines have a knock sensor some do not. Ok makes sense. Is the carb correct now ? Assume it was a float/needle & seat issue? if it is still an issue may need to check the fuel pressure

    Puffing steam out vents

That’s good. Verify your exhaust is not leaking get it running do a couple oil changes to make sure it runs clear oil wise exhaust manifolds can be tested by filling with acetone. It wicks into cracks easier than water

    Puffing steam out vents

Ideally you want to pressure test the heads too as often they crack at exhaust seat or jacket in salt wears through. If it were mine I’d put the o,d head gaskets back on torque the heads down and test. why did you change riser gaskets ? Is this salt or fresh water any chance water got down the...

    Puffing steam out vents

Your best bet is to pressure test the cooling system. Which isn’t hard to do and will confirm if you have a crack or other odd ball situation. does you engine have an engine oil cooler by chance ?

    Puffing steam out vents

Pressure test the cooling system see if it holds. of course better to do this before you tear it down. Did you see any cracks in lifter valley below heads, underside of thermostat is also a corrosion and crack area. riser gaskets would have to leak water back into cylinders and in oil. Might...
