99 Super Hawk. Repair, Transform, Rig

Re: 99 Super Hawk. Repair, Transform, Rig Looks like a nice rig, too bad about the deck rot. Construction wise, it looks a lot like my 1800, a bit different due to the years. It would probably be best to cover the new sub-deck plywood with marine vinyl so water drains off and doesn't stay...

tune up turns into thousands of dollars fix??

Re: tune up turns into thousands of dollars fix?? JB weld "might" seal it up, but I wouldn't trust it. Welding would be a better "fix", but a used bellhousing would be easier/cheaper/quicker/better..... crack circled

unknown piece fell while removing out drive

Re: unknown piece fell while removing out drive Exhaust riser (elbow) is on top of the manifold, gasket goes in between, looks like this (or close to it). Get the OEM Mercruiser gasket, metallic/silvery looking one.

    Straightening bent aluminum angle.....

Re: Straightening bent aluminum angle..... 3.5" angle 3" angle 3/8" plate Top view looking down, with angles attaching to the transom vertically (Poor perspective as it's bolting on at 104*,not 90*) Side view, black angle attaching to transom Depth of swim platform is still to be...

    Straightening bent aluminum angle.....

Re: Straightening bent aluminum angle..... Two 1/4" thick angles are being sandwiched to hold a piece of 3/8" plate, so the 3.5" angle being cupped inwards is causing a issue with clamping the 3/8" plate. The angles are pinching the aluminum plate, instead of the plate slipping in between the...

    Straightening bent aluminum angle.....

I bought a chunk of 3.5" x 3.5" x 1/4" structural aluminum angle and found that it's tweaked, definitely not a 90* angle as it should be. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can straighten it back to 90*. I have a good home shop, but nothing that I can apply enough pressure and bend it back into...

Epoxy vs Poly Resin with mat and cloth (+ couple ?'s)

I'm building a plywood swim platform and need to seal it up before painting it. Which would to be stronger (IE: banging into the dock), plain epoxy or poly resin with a layer of mat and cloth? For a 6'x20" swim platform, how much epoxy would be needed, how much poly resin? Is 1 layer of mat...

    replacement of the rope rubrail

Re: replacement of the rope rubrail On a Wellcraft I don't know, but my Crestliner was easy, probably took an hour. I used 7/16" braided nylon rope from Lowes (looks better than the twisted poly rope) and big snap ring pliers to spread the rubber channel, along with a couple blunt screwdrivers.

calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada Here are some sheep that decided to drop in Saturday morning, or should say, I dropped in on their breakfast... It was pretty cool watching them up close and they are truly amazing at scaling canyon walls. The left side of the picture is an almost sheer...

    Where to mount rod holders?

Re: Where to mount rod holders? Got a welder? I made this out of steel (it hasn't rusted.....yet). Port side nutted on bottom to keep it from loosening while trollin' for big fish. Drill out rivets in rub-rail and replace with bolts, bolts that hold rod holder to gunnel. The rod holders are...

    Attaching rub rail

For the rub rail below, would you put an aluminum strip inside, so the rub rail doesn't droop or pull away. Screws attaching the rub rail would go through the aluminum strip, spaced about 6" apart. This rub rail is going on a swim platform, so I don't bang up the swim platform docking in...

calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada Hey jj, have you been down the dirt road (goat path) going down to the water at Government? Water in #4 cylinder, 140HP Mercuiser

I want to run this by you guys before I tear into the engine further... My 73 140 HP Mercruiser is getting water in the #4 cylinder. I removed the riser and the gasket was sealing well, so no leaks there. The manifold had a puddle of water in the bottom of the exhaust passage (not from removing...

Riggin' leadcore, what's your color "out"

I just bought a couple spools of leadcore line and noticed the dark colors are on the top of the filler spool and all the flashy colors are at the bottom, meaning once on the reel it will be just the opposite. I'm thinking it would be best to have the dark colors close to the fish opposed to the...

    GPS for fishing inland waters???

How many of you guys use GPS while fishing lakes? Is it a must have now that you have used it, why? Do you have the basic map or upgraded high detail map? I've never had a fishing GPS and now considering GPS with a new sonar unit, but after playing with a couple and seeing how lacking of detail...
