Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

I thought was a yellow lab smimming along the shore.

This one was yellow too? I always thought they were brown, guess not...

Thinking "this is perfect" until they try to build a dam on it. I think Beavers are really cool, but they are just over matched . . . :(

Cool pic QC! My phone was off, or I would have tried to snap a pic...

Just imagine what they think when they stare up at "The dams", Hoover, Parker, Davis... Probably awe struck with angel music going off in their heads, then thinking... Hope I don't run across the beaver who built "That!" :D

In Beaver folklore, they all knew that one beaver couldn't chew the job. Thus, Six Beavers, Inc. was founded. :D

FD- They could all be brown, don't know. What I saw on that hot sunny day after work resembled a yellow dog swimming close to shore....had no idea at the time that beavers were in the river.

I had no idea either. I first saw them at Aja Quinn, below Parker. I was calling them Muskrats or something because I didn't believe it

I can beat that. I have proof. This is a beaver at the Nautical Inn, Havasu:

Yes I know it's Havasu, but it is an actual Beaver. No I mean the actual animal, the Dam building type.

I've also seen them below Parker. I always thought these guys got ripped off. Here they are on this big ole River. Thinking "this is perfect" until they try to build a dam on it. I think Beavers are really cool, but they are just over matched . . . :(

Its a yellow lab lol!!! no its a beaver.
I haven't seen one on mead yet.

perhaps you all didn't understand my earlier post! Funny how the things that matter most don't seem to matter.

Be Careful! Just this morning I was reading about a fatal beaver attack! (the dam beaver type.) Man tried to take a photo of aforementioned beaver, and was bitten in the leg.. the beaver hit an artery and he died. Poor guy.

jj-

Your post is very important! There may be some other discussion before someone responds to your post. I haven't responded because I won't let anyone jump in the water. Not sure what others would do. I remember last year when the husband went in untethered and the wife didn't know how to operate the boat and they drifted apart, tragic!

LOL, I was up at Fish Lake and asked the resort lady what's with all the beavers around. Beavers??? oh those are muskrats........

Agree, very important for people who haven't been to Mead and not know what to expect, or are not seasoned enough to respect the water. I learned that lesson long ago, when one of my friends almost drown trying to swim to shore, drunk out on the boat and thought he'd swim to camp/shore. I wasn't there, but the story still sticks with me

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

ok, so I just purchased a Brand New 12v BILGE PUMP SUBMERSIBLE 1100 GPH for my little boat. Thinking about getting a second but not sure yet.. what do you all think?? its a small boat but open enough to take on a lot of water. Pretty sure I should get another 1100 right???

but for now, what do you all say? is that a decent size? it has a 1 1/8" barb.

Yeah, 1100 is plenty. I don't run two bilge pumps, but I should. You could use smaller for a back-up. Up to you. It is the back up. If you go that route, I'd plumb to a second outlet hole as then you could run both of them most efficiently in a real emergency.

^^^ Yup!

I run duals for redundancy first (most important), then capacity second. We got caught out in some really nasty stuff and the bilge pump stopped working... Turned out the bilge pump was fine but junk had clogged the corrugated hose. Luckily we were able to clear the hose, pump the bilge and make it back home... On my new (to me) boat I have smooth bore hose hose for the bilge pumps. It costs more than the cheap corrugated hose, but things can't get jammed in the crevices and clog the hose.

Here are some sheep that decided to drop in Saturday morning, or should say, I dropped in on their breakfast... It was pretty cool watching them up close and they are truly amazing at scaling canyon walls. The left side of the picture is an almost sheer vertical cliff face and they were walking, running and jumping all over it, like it was "nothing"! Only 9 in this pic, but the group was 15+.

We ran into a bunch of those mountain sheep guys on the Mojave side last time we were down there. We captured some really good video and stills. They are truly amazing to watch scaling the almost vertical hills and cliffs. Pretty incredible.

LMM 4.15.13.jpg

I got home yesterday from a 3 day, 730 mile off road trip and had to drive through 60mph+ winds that caused the dust hitting us broadside in a topless vehicle. Not the funnest of times.
