Planning my build for my "new to me" 14' vhull jon boat.
This thing is nice and wide, and mostly flat on bottom. Also pretty deep sides and bow.
For my first post, im looking for any Ideas, input, warnings, etc.

So far I have cleaned boat and started sanding and wire wheeling the whole outside.
Getting my thoughts together as to how im gonna build the inside
I want as much room as possible, but a compromise between storage under "lids" and "floor space".

Again, any and all input always appreciated.
I will post my plans, and pics asap. thanks

Hi luke. Sounds like a fun project. I suppose the overall layout is determined by two main factors: what is your primary use for the boat (fishing vs. watersports) and what type of power do you have (tiller vs. controls; 2 vs. 4 strokes). 14' is pretty small and best suits 2-3 people. I have a similar vintage hull which started life as a skiboat/runabout with controls and a fiberglass cap, but is now a tiller drive fishing skiff. I'd say a small center console, or tiller set up would give you the most options. Best of all, aluminum hulls (aka tin boats) are very cheap and easy to rebuild yourself using everyday products from any lowes/hd. Good luck. Keep us posted.

kfa4303-

Im building it just for fishing with 2 people max.
I have a excellent running Evinrude 9.9hp tiller ive used flawlessly on my 12' for 3 years now.
I want the popular "deck" design that everyone uses.
just not sure how I want to set it up.
Any ideas?

Wire wheels are pretty rough on aluminum. Strippers are better.

What boat do you have?

Before doing something that can't be undone you may find out you have a classic tin boat that is worth a lot more than you think. I've seen lots of classics ruined by 'soon to be compost' owner installed wooden decks, etc.

yea I agee wire wheels are rough, I should've mentioned im using a 150 grit "brush" style sanding wheel. Also 150 grit paper and palm sander for flat areas.

As far as the make....I have NO idea. lol
I dont have a title or registration that tells me, and there's nothing on the boat to identify it.
I can tell you theres a number on back with one letter and 4 numbers.
I was actually curious what this was myself, as it seems to short to be a H.I.N....

It's probably the serial number from the manufacturer. They're stamped on, correct?

The transom # M 560 was recently posted by someone on another forum. The M designated the model &/or year and since they started w/ #100, it was the 460th boat built.

It'll be tough w/ out pix.

It is often very easy to find good reference pix online if you can find ANYTHING notable to make the search easier. Other times it's surprising that there's NOTHING online.

Any chance that looking at just the right angle you can make out the halo of a maker's logo along the stern? That was all it took to ID a Nader boat.

I dont think so, I didn't see a halo of a badge.
It has a unique shape to the stern and how its built may help ID it.
Can you remind me how to post pics on here?
I'm using my Android phone if that matters.

I don't post pix from my Android phone. I always upload them to my computer boat files, then to photobucket & post them large so their easy to see & IN the post instead of attachments:

Yes, the link works. I'm pretty sure you can rule out it being an Aluma Craft.

But I'm not sure what it is.

Just a quick question: Wouldn't this be easier from your phone it there was 1 14ft V thread? Not 2?

yea sorry one thread was for my build, and the other is just about sealing bottom.
I guess I should've just put them in one.
Im sorry for the confusion.

how did you get the pic to post large like that without a link?

Re: 14' V-hull conversion build, shoot me your ideas & thoughts!

I kept getting 14ft V thread emails & was bouncing back & forth...............

I'd get a MOD to combine them for you......

I use the IMG
Code:
that photobucket lists for every pix. That code looks like this:
{IMG]http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n633/LUKELONA/20140107_141647.jpg[/IMG}

when I paste that IMG code into a post it shows up large & IN my post rather then an attachment or a link:
  [IMG]http://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/gg618/jbcurt00/Qo8OgTYElgtVeIT7T1Mcuwclb8jyg7cvBFz.jpg[/IMG]

As an example, if I was trying to find a similar looking boat to ID yours, it'd be difficult to jump back & forth between browser tabs looking for familiar features if I also had to 'open' an attachment to see the pix or page thru them 1 at a time. If all 6 are posted in your reply, I can easily scan thru the pix & jump pix to pix & back quickly. Not waiting for internet lag helps me do it even quicker.

JBcurt, your the man...its so.easy to read a post, but to actually respond shows that you really care about your fellow boaters. :)

I'm gonna try that with the pics.
What is a mod?
