InMotion - Great Boat there. I purchased a 69' Jet Star a month back. Slowly working on the rebuild. Hope to be done so I can splash it in the Spring!

Good Luck on your rebuild!

Looking good!

Odd about the bolts in the transom drains...

In my Jet I like to keep drain plugs in there, but i usually like to remove them when the water gets in there, or alteast let the fuel drain out once in a while... :p

Uber Odd.... they were not "accidentally" put there... there was a permanent intention for sure! Gone now!

Funny Jim, I didn't see a nice shiny verticle pole installed in your reworked garage.
Eazy on the hand when you flip it.

Some progress today fellas...

Ok.... Flipped and in the garage...

Overall the hull looks pretty good... convienientally, the hull has been "pre-scraped" by "dragging".... no real damage... just lots of paint worn off!

I tried a new stripper today... environmentally friendly and way cheaper... but like most things in life... you get what you pay for... so the section at the back is the new stripper and the section in the middle is the tried and true stripper... you judge!

Also... kinda totally forgot that running the kerosene heater and stripping is a no no... thankfully I was wearing a full mask resporator as the result was a nasty toxic plume! By the time I noticed, I had to open up the doors wide and let fresh air in! From now on... electric oil heater only! Yikes!!

Have a great Saturday fella's.

Hey Jim nice progress, I quess we know which stripper your going to use. Have you tried Mar-hyde Tal strip II? it is great, once the paint is lifted the stuff dries and you can vacuum it up. Be carefull with the fumes. I noticed you have a 20lb propane tank in the garage, that is a NO NO in a heat building.

Ya... can't get the stuff anymore here... or at least found it! Napa no longer carries it! I have a little left and man that stuff works terrific. If you know of a place that carries it that I can order from and get it --- or get it locally that would be terrific!

Ya... the 20lb is empty... but your right. I moved it back outside today!

Ok.... I'm wondering if anyone knows whether the following sewing machine would sew vinyl... it's a 1938 White sewing machine... it says in the owner's manual that it will sew canvas pants and heavy clothing... so I kinda thought it would sew vinyl!????

Here she is....

All original --- it's actually a piece of furniture for us when it is packed away...

Any thoughts????

I think that White is very similar to the Singer Model 15 Dozer is currently working with.............

Using the right thread & needles, and after getting it tuned up & lubed, I suspect it should stitch vinyl... a 1938 machine should have metal gears...

Might PM WOG, JDA or the other upholstery guy posting to JDA's recent Another upholstery thread...

Hey Jim did a search on the Talstrip and 3M discontinued it for some reason, it's been around for ever. Check with Offshore autobody parts they may have some old stock , or Acklands.

The old White sewing machine sure looks in great shape, should work real well for you. You will have to use an HD needle. Make sure to buy the best uv resistant thread you can find and the highest quality vinyl you can afford the better, will make working with it way easier.

Thanks JB... sounds like it will do the job but it will need to be oiled up first! I completely forgot we had it... to us it's just been a piece of furniture. My wife used it oh about 10 yrs ago and it worked great.... just not since then.

I was surprised too! That's why I am using the sure strip.... not as good meaning more effort (a lot more) required. But it does work. The Tal strip just pealed the paint off in comparison.

Good to know. I will go to the place in midland for the vinyl when the time comes. Sewing straight lines will be a challenge for me among other things. I'll be sure to re-read your thread on sewing before starting!!!
