Re: 1965 Johnson Tri-Hull restore!
Hey guys been a while, not been too active on here this winter, I still read most days though. Boat has been dormant all winter, now its starting to warm up, and thinking about things. The trailer needs some serious help, structurally it is very sound, but all the rollers are crap and most don't roll!! LOL. And one side of the trailer was slightly lower, so new springs and all new rollers will be done, started today on it. I'd really like to paint the trailer but I have no where to take the boat off and leave it, so it'll have to stay as is for now.
Old spring, button on the bottom is much smaller then the new springs. Going to be a problem where the spring sits because the hole isn't big enough on the axle to take the new spring, and I don't want to drill into the axle tube, the seat isn't very thick.
So out to the metal place for some 1/2" thick steel plate, the spring is 1 3/4" wide, but you can't buy flatbar in that thickness, so had to buy 2" but that's wider then where the bolts go through. So had to mill it down.
New plate over the spring clamp, you can see it overlaps the holes.
So onto the lathe with the milling attachment. Took .045" off each side of the plate.
