Fossilized bug carcasses are necessary to imbue proper character in any boat.

Ok now we're getting somewhere! 3 coats rolled on following Woodonglass' recipe. 1 day between coats, scuffed with scotch brute and rubbed down with mineral spirits dampened rag. For now I'm sticking with the KISS scheme










Paint seems quite durable, and I certInly wasn't going for gloss so some orange peel is no problem.

Almost time to flip and start on the interior!!! Happy dance.....

Still a few screwups to clean up where I painted outside the tape lines. However, I don't think I actually entombed any insects. Oh well, maybe next time.

Well.......turns out the trailer title that was handed over when I bought the boat was a copy, which I found out while I had the trailer dismantled. PO is digging around for the original but may need to file for a duplicate before I can take ownership of the trailer. So, I just put the trailer back together mostly as-was (found out that one leaf spring was cracked so I replaced it, but kept the old; also I had already prepped & repainted the fenders and axle) until the title issues are taken care of. Restoring the trailer may be a next-year project.

Hey just checked out your rehab your making some good progress. If your going to do that bowectomy now would be the time to start. Your older year has a different dash and transom setup then mine. Looking good.

Getting some things done that make sense while the splash well is still off, like installing bilge pump.

Ah yeah the ever important bilge pump that you hope to never use, you really should think about adding a remote float switch to it. Are those machine screws and nylocs holding the base bracket to the knee brace or are they just sheet metal screws?

Yep float switch is a good idea. Those are sheet metal screws. Bolts would have to go through both sides of the knee.

So you know there's a ton of vibration back there and those 2 screws just might work loose on you. My advice on that is you could blind rivet them to the knee brace and then no worries about the vibration.

Just to get an idea of the BP set up I have, here's mine in the SS. All I used were blinds to hold the mounting plate down and the pump/switch.

I think I'd like to keep the option of removing the bilge pump assembly without drilling out rivets. Your pic shows one of the several ways that the SS is cooler than the Jupiter -- Jup has the knee running right down the centerline with the drain in a weird position off to the side and up a bit, so there will always be some standing water. Could have at least left a a gap to put the drain on the centerline, but no. I'm really loving this boat, all except for that little piece of design genius.

Yeah those are cartridge type pumps so that mount base stays put and you just unsnap the old to replace the pump. Can't say I ever have had a pump go bad on me yet but if so the rewiring will be the tough part under there. I thought about it too late but I should've put in waterproof plugs to make it super easy.
