Thanks wood. I was not sure if that Valspar primer was ok for fiberglass. Thanks for the continued support. :):)

Not much going on here. Slowing plugging along.

Got the bow-eye backer laminated together a few weeks back (3 layers of 3/4" ACX with Titebond3). Trimmed the sides today with the table saw to get the approximate shape I need:

Also worked on taking apart the lights off of one of the free boats, (tested, cleaned, rewired) them. However I need to get a few bulbs as I dropped the ones that were in them.

Geee... even in 1968 they were into recycling... Found out where they put the used toilet paper rolls... LOL!

They put them in the bottom of the hull and glassed over them and used them for supports/hull stiffeners

Got the rest of the wet toilet paper rolls cut out today :D

Last night I worked on pulling the windshield apart and used some JB-Weld to fill in the snap screw holes on the front of the top frame:

I figure instead of trying to buff and polish the windshield frame, I'll just give it a light sanding and spray it with some self etching primer and some paint.

I also got a cardboard template measured and cut out in prep for making a wooden mold for thermo-forming a new windshield and a template for the Acrylic or Lexan:

Been thinking about the replacement for the cardboard roll/fiberglass stiffeners and wanted to see what you all thought of the 2 options I have come up with.

1. Is using some pine railing PB'd down and glassed over:

2. Next is 1 1/4" PVC pipe ripped in half, PB'd down and glassed over (I am leaning more towards this one):

Here a few pics of what was there before:

This is pretty much how they will be run:

As always, I am open to any suggestions and advice.

Thanks everyone

Does anyone have any suggestions on this?

Thanks in advance

The theory behind using cardboard as the forming material for those added hull support is that the glass is what gives the STRENGTH to the structure. This is true, as long as the installation of the glass is done properly. If she were mine, I'd use the PVC cut in half. Just make sure to acetone wash it first so the Resin and glass will adhere to it and take extra care to ensure you get NO AIR BUBBLES in the layup. I would for sure use a layer of 1.5 oz CSM a layer of 1708, another CSM, and a final layer of1708.

Looking for a replacement windshield molding like this:

Here is the frame it goes in on the top of the windshield:

I have not had any luck looking online so far...

I'm not saying you can't but I would for sure practice first. Probably would NOT work for primer but might work for the final coats. You would need to possibly thin the paint a bit more but experimentation should give you that formula. Heck, I'd try anything once. As long as you don't have to thin to much and it shoots the paint without Fisheyes or orange peel, I say give it a try.

I think I will do some experimenting with it. I'll post the results.

Thank you

I cannot wait until Saturday... Going to head up to Portsmouth and pick what should be my last load of resin, MEKP, Biax, CSM and 6 oz fiber glass cloth. :):D

The place opens at 8am so the kiddos and I will get up early and get some donuts for the ride :D :)

Thanks Wood.

I picked up one of these for $4 and some change:

http://www.beckson.com/drainplug.html

And one of these at Target:

http://www.target.com/p/Sterilite-34-Gallon-Latch-Tote-Grey-Set-of-4/-/A-13168270

They have a larger one, but was not as tall as the 34 gallon:

http://www.target.com/p/Sterilite-45-gal-Latchtote-Wheeled-Storage-Unit-Titanium-Set-of-4/-/A-11862100

So I opted for the taller one.

I cut a little rubber seal out of an old bike tire inner-tube, some bathtub calking and 2 small bolts/nuts and washers.

I have yet to fill it with water so it is a work in progress. I may need to do a little wood bracing of the sides.
