Re: 1968 Glassmaster Runabout

Spent the better part of the day sanding and filling.

Wood - I tried the 1c primer to 1/3c acetone and shot an area on the bottom of the hull:

Looks much better.... THANK YOU!

I figure the problem must have been one of the following...

1. I did not clean the gun (new gun) before I did the first shoot so maybe there was something in it.
2. The 1/3c acetone and 1/3c mineral spirits thinned 2c of primer too much.
3. I should not have use mineral spirits.
4. There was still something on the hull surface.
5. All the above :)

Hopefully next weekend I will be able to shoot the primer coats.

Have a great week everyone!

Re: 1968 Glassmaster Runabout

Made some progress this past week and weekend.

I finished up shooting the primer and lightly sanded before the first coat of paint.

Got coats 1 and 2 done yesterday and wet-sanded this am. After an acetone wash down, I shot coat 3 and just a little while ago, coat 4. Definitely have an orange peel problem:

I had some paint leftover in the gun and figured I'd shoot the motor hood too:

Any suggestions on the orange peel?

Thanks everyone

What size tip R U using? What was the mix? That much Peel would indicate to me that the paint dried before the paint had a chance to level, meaning...too much acetone possibly. I'd wet sand it with 220 and try to level as best I could and then Shoot another coat with 1/8 cup acetone and 1/4 cup MS per cup of paint. That will give it more time to Level put watch for runs. Also cut back on your volume and increase the fan.

Sorry ..... I can't help on the orange peel but a few adjustments and you'll be right back on track. Keep up the good work.

It's done and he said it is in great shape I just have to get over and pick it up. I am hoping to pick it up on Thurs and mount it this weekend.

Re: 1968 Glassmaster Runabout

Thanks Wood.

I have Tuesday-Friday off so I am hoping to get the trailer all wire-brushed, primed and painted.

I should have the funds in another week to order up the rollers and hardware. I can then, flip her back over and onto the trailer.

I was thinking of using this for the trailer:

https://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=155
then
https://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=150 in gloss black

Does anyone have any input on this stuff?

Good stuff. I'd add the hardener to it and it should wear like nails!!!

What's the consensus on throwing a coat of wax on the hull before I flip her back over and onto the trailer?

It's nothing special. Just a quick wire brush and primed and painted with:

Also got the engine hood done:

Just need to find where I put that darn rubber molding for the bottom....

The life of a cat is a tough one... LOL!
