Epoxy update: 24 hours have passed and epoxy has cured. I walked to the garage barefooted to test hoe the epoxied sand would feel. Man this stuff is agressive. It feels like that non skid tape, like sand paper. You wont slip on this stuff, but if u fall u will scrape the s@#$t out of your knees. Soo, I went ahead and aplied some paint to see if it would soften the agressiveness of this non skidness.

One thing for sure. The sand is not going anywhere. I have ordered some non skid additive , maybe this tuff will be softer. Will see.

What I mostly do for non skid is mask, pre-coat with epoxy or paint, then sprinkle non skid over it and let it dry/cure. Vacuum up the excess, remove masking as needed, then apply more paint/epoxy over the non skid.

It keeps the non skid from being too aggressive and seals it in well.

You can also use something besides sand, like walnut shell blast media for a sandblaster. It's basically wood so if you ever have to remove it it grinds off (unlike sand). Plus it offers a different texture than sand non skid.

Ok, Im almost done with the deck. Im in the second coat of epoxy phase.

MAH006012.jpg

Should be finished with paint and non skid this week end.

Another good thing, my transom plate just got delivered!

MAH006021.jpg

All to thanks to MikesAlphas.com. Noticed how now the bottom exhaust fits verus the old transom plate.

One thing I learned is I can still use my 3 bolt exhaust! Will just have to plug the bottom 2 small exhaust ports. From what I understand this is common practice. Odered some more epoxy as well. Gonna have full weekend.

Hurry up Azlo, time is ticking. I'm coming to San Antonio in a couple weeks to see my son, DIL and grand daughter. Didn't I hear you say that you would take me out fishing on your nice pretty boat?
What did you decide on the non-skid?

Well Triton it looks like I have to. Since this housing unit is newer it wont fit on the older style hole. But I love this newer style pre-alpha unit. Its a bit better design and parts are more available.

WIth time running out, i decided to just buy some nonskid & added to the paint

MAH006031.jpg

Mixed in a quart with some mineral spirits.

MAH006032.jpg

I have to say I really didnt like the way it looked. But this is the first coat.

MAH006042.jpg

SO I will wait for the second to see how it comes out.

MAH006044.jpg

Maybe because its not uniformed. I dont know, Ill wait for the second coat.

SO while the deck paint drys, went ahead shaped my transom for the transom housing unit.

MAH006063.jpg

The only thing that worrys me are the extra holes. Gonna have to fill them with epoxy. Look at how much i have to take off the aluminum.

Tee deck looks good. It's protected, non slip and almost done. I'm sure the second coat will give the effect you're looking for.

It's cool to see the transom almost done too. How are you looking at cutting the alum. It've cut brass with a dremel tool and wheel and it cut it like butter...but it was only a 4 inch cut.

No worries Azlo & CBK. I am secure and happy with my wife. Maybe it would be a good idea if I just visit my family and leave you to your boat.;)
your doing a great job Azlo, keep it up.
Don't worry about Sprinst, he will probably break a rod anyway.
Me on the other hand caught some fish today but the good news is I didn't think about ya.:D

I felt my floor was almost too pretty to cover up. Looks like bar tops.
