Those rivet nuts are one of the coolest things I've seen. Did you find those online somewhere?

Seems like the perfect way to make the pump removable even though it's secure too.

Nice work, can't wait to see a video of the pump.:)

The pump is a monster, I like it. I went with friend to water test a fishing boat on the weekend. The boat had 2 plugs in the transom. 1 for the bilge and 1 for the live fishwell. Well as you might have guessed the wrong hole was plugged. We were coming out of the harbour and when the driver hit the gas we could not plane. We popped open an inspection hatch to find the two batteries under water. Made a tight turn to head back to the ramp as the driver was in panic mode. Told him it turn on the bilge pump and my buddy reached under the transom to put the spare plug in from the inside. The little pump was working hard but did not make a dent in the water level. Put the boat back on the trailer and pulled the plug to remove the rest of the water. Moral of the story is big pumps are good if you have an issue that needs it or don?t forget the plug.

Azlo - that pump will fit upright under the engine no problem - just have to move it forward between the next ribs - I would take a picture but the snow is a little deep....

No worries Azlo. I am restoring/modifying a 1960 Larson Playboy Runabout into a watefowling boat. It is nothing compared to your undertaking. I just picked up a 1988 Force 35HP with controls that will need some work too. I also find myself daydreaming or thinking in my sleep about what needs to get done next. Just when I think I know how I will proceed, I stop myself before cutting/grinding/sanding, step back and rethink it. Sometimes I come up with a completely different idea. Best of luck, I will keep reading and looking for pics. Dave

I would like to take the time to thank everybody for making fun of my pump.
Yes its a monster, I should of known better. But we learn from our Mistakes. In this case I still installed it. But I ran in to a problem As you can see I cant sit the pump straight cause its to tall. So,,,,, had to put it side ways.

As I said this is for when the boat is sinking from an extreme leak. I will have a 1000gpm pump right beside for the usual small to medium leaks. Had to mount the flywheel cover to make sure it would clear it. SO how to strap this pump? Glad you ask. I had plenty of aluminum flat bar. So went ahead modified this conjucture.

MAH007821.jpg

Drilled the holes to attatch the strap to the bottom of the transom and a rib.

MAH007831.jpg

On the rib i used a rivet nut. U guys remember my floor braces, well this is the tool I used.

MAH007836.jpg

Drilled a hole on the rib & used the tool to install apermanent nut on the rib. Sweet.

This is how the nut looks like afterwards.

Wow Azlo, that's a nifty tool to install blind captured nuts, I'd love to get my hands on one of those

Crazy weather indeed for these parts. This is two winters in a row we have had freak amounts of snow for the area.

Thanks Az, I've got a couple of blind nuts to install in the firewall of my Airtourer 115, that little wedge-shaped tool will be perfect for the job. Cheers,

Airtourer 115 , nice. Is it the same as boats? A hole to throw money in?. I was thinking aeronautics as my next project but a transition like that would be a mile stone for me.

Re: 1968 Holiday Restoration w/pics

Weather is great today so went to HD to get the bilge pump hose. Man it was $5 something a foot!! And I need 6ft, so thats $30 plus tax!! So i got a foot & looked for an alternative. Found some pvc 10ft for $3 and elbows for 93cents. Al in all $15 bucks total, not bad. Will post pics on the construction. So with that done i went ahead finished changing the media on my sandblaster from black diamond to Glass Beads. I tried on the aluminum brackets and I like it,,like it alot.

Man I just couldnt wait, after a short dinner I went back to the garage & started on the bilge tubing. It seems I need 2 more elbows. The hose kinks went it bends so cant use on bends. Well I need to get a 90' elbow and a 45'. 2 more $.

The through hull fitting looks like a porthull window. Just hook the pump up on a float switch and forget about it. Nice work Azlo, impressive. Oh yeah, we use the revnut tool to install all the handles on storefront doors. Gotta love 'em.
