That floor is awsome! Are you going to leave it that way or apply something on it? I could see some problems...
Slippery when wet
Bake at 350 degrees.....:p Even tan though;)
Blinded by sun reflection
AND..
A lot of slaps in the face when the ladies in dresses come aboard.

It's actually not that bad when wet, but that's assuming we actually got some rain up here...j/k. I can't wait for it to STOP raining.

The majority of PNW boats have tread plate with nothing on it. The ones that are coated, typically use zolatone. I haven't made up my mind yet on what I'll do though. Right now the main thing is getting everything fitted before becoming permanent.

I decided to not strip the hull, since the paint is still in good shape. I'll scuff and repaint over it.

The topside is being stripped tonight, since I didn't have time the other day.

I did get a test section done this morning though.

Here's some panels my build partner finished. One is the long side panel, and the other are the sliding doors under the splashwell.

The material is Playboard, made by the same company and more or less makeup as Seaboard.

Re: 1971 16' ss

I bought all the paint today...don't want to talk about how much it cost. Even at dealer cost it wasn't cheap.

Sherwin Williams Automotive

4th Dimension 5.0 1 gallon Toyota Super White
4th Dimension 5.0 1 quart Nissan Daytona Blue Metallic
4th Dimension 5.0 1 gallon Clear Coat
1 gallon Reducer
1 can of Hardener
1 qt 2k Primer
1 can of self etching primer

I just needed the primers for the top where I stripped it all the way down because of chips. I'm going to test it on one of the consoles before doing any larger surface areas, to insure compatibility.

I figured since I was shooting BC/CC that I would load up one gun of each color, rather than having to clean the gun in between colors.

Since the guns were $10 each, I figured...why not.

TIG welded up a few holes. I intentionally didn't sand them down flat, and just left them looking like rivit heads.

Test fitting flooring a little bit. Still need to notch around the knee by the transom, and to cut out the front pieces.

Great looking floor!!! Did you add any bracing from port to starboard to flatten the area?

I plan on doing something similar to my Mariner, but with the standard .125 aluminum flat sheet and then put Hydroturf on it.

Between the outer ribs and stringers, it sits flat. I haven't decided how much, if any reinforcement underneath I will do. There is a little flex to the floor when it is not secured at all. I don't think there will be though once it's riveted into place.

Sheets of hydroturf...will definately add considerably to the cost of the floor. It'd be cheaper to just put an anti skid solution on top instead. (which I may do even on top of the tread plate)

I am currently running the clearance B grade molded grey diamond sheets in my 1848 flat bottom boat. It is cool on the bare feet while fishing, doesn't absorb water and doesn't get slippery/icy or freeze up during duck season here in Wisconsin.

Doesn't sound that bad then. I'm sure the slime/mucus off a couple of sturgeon would be hard to remove off of it though.

Time flies when your having fun, or not making progress on your project anyway.

Transom is in, but the holes are not drilled. (weforgot the hardware at the other shop)

Here is what little we have gotten done though. Once it's flipped and I sand the bottom it's ready for paint.

Wow, that looks awsome! How will the floor be fastened to the boat? It will be a great boat when you are done.

The floor will be riveted down, just like the factory wood floor.

We decided on Tempress Elite High Back's for seats and they will be mounted on aluminum boxes for extra storage. The seats will have sliders, so they can be adjusted for people of different height if necessary.

I'll be building a gas tank to go between the seats below deck. (only way to get the correct size down there) With that out of the way in the splash well, I can build in tackle storage under the splash well.

Thanks

Once it's painted, it'll go together fast. Unfortunately prep and paint work is what I'm the slowest at.

I see you have removed the splashwell.

Assuming you will replace it.

Using the old splashwell?

Fabricating a new one? same size and shape?

I am looking to modify mine, to give more open space in the boat. Any ideas?

Also, in an early photo, it looks like you have an infloor fuel tank. ??

Size, shape, volume, photos ???? if you have them?

I really like what you have done so far, and am impressed with your skills.
