Huge, love it! (firewood too, nice!)

It should be perfect for the big boat. Thats all the firrwood i have left for the year. I only burn it in the garage so I should be good. Ill just have to start cutting again.

I made room in the driveway today for the big boat so I can get started on it again.

Tomorrow I might be picking up a 18'new starcraft SS with 140 mercruiser. He only wants $350 so hopefully he still has it by tomorrow.

Well if the Admiral is on board, an 18' SS will be MUCH safer then a 3wheeler ;)

Well the Silverline hasn't made it home yet. On tuesday I was diagnosed with tinitis so it might be awhile before I get back on the Silverline. :)

Ditto ^^^ Sounds like Junebugs all the time. And yes, you get used to it. Incidentally, power tools drown it out nicely:)

Re: 1972 Silverline Grand Bahama

I got the big boat brought home today. We were at the lake with some friends yesterday on our 19' deckboat and it was just way to crowded. We need something bigger so here I am again, getting ready for the grind and itch.

The plan right now is to get enough ground out that I can get the new transom installed. That's going to be the biggest hurdle of this restore since the transom is pretty close to 4' x 8'. After that putting in the stringers should be pretty straight forward and the deck wont be a big deal at all. I guess the ultimate goal is to have all the new wood fiberglassed in by the end of the year. It will still be a slow process since funds are always tight.

I'm also wondering how much resin/ fiberglass I will need to get the transom put in. I really don't want to end up short in the middle of a layup.

Re: 1972 Silverline Grand Bahama

I just glued my new transom in, and it took a combined 100 oz of epoxy resin (80 oz) and hardener (20 oz), plus a pound by weight of filler (about another 32 oz by volume). My transom is 74 inches wide by 34 inches tall at the keel. About 15-16 square feet of wood not counting the keyhole.

Haven't filleted or skinned it yet, so that will be another half-gallon or so probably.

West Systems has calculators for various applications that can guide you. My filler calculations were off because I was using US Composites thin laminating resin, and it's a lot thinner than West 105, using more filler to get to the right consistency.

If you're a poly type of guy, there are a bunch of folks here that can calculate materials for that realm.

That helps. Ill be going with poly on this one. Epoxy would break me on this build.

Hi BN, glad to see you getting back...hope all is good...
Another tip is to have some extra containers pre-measured, But NOT pre-mixed...if you find you need a bit more, you can whip it up quicker...
