If interested, I plugged a few holes by using thin gauge alum flashing from the gutter/roofing aisle at HD affixed from underneath with JB, then filled from topside with their WaterWeld epoxy putty, overfilled, light sanding, paint.

Ok some more progress sanding today. I ran out of 320 so I only got to finish the top bow area and starboard gunwale. The sanding is going quicker than I thought so far. I also installed about 20 close end rivets.

Bunker, you did a great job on the exterior/restore. Looks awesome. What is the peice on the side of the boat hull called and where did you order it from?

I am finished sanding, and what I didn't sand I scuffed with a red scotch brite pad. I am masking now for paint tomorrow. I sorely underestimated the job of masking. I see why the rest of you guys do this all at once instead of in stages. I have to finish masking the engine and the area around the splashwell and the rest of the carpet and seats. Then it is going back in the booth for primer and paint. I took the topside down to bare aluminum and the rest of the interior just got scuffed. I will post the results tomorrow.

Well everyone, I can finally close the book on paint. I finished masking got her primed and painted today. It came out pretty good considering I shot it myself. I primed where I sanded down to aluminum on top of the gunwales and scuffed the rest of the interior paint. I deciced at the last minute to do the splashwell which I was planning on rhino lining. But since I had the booth I figured I might as well do it. I sealed up the splashwell with automotive seam sealer. I will keep you posted on how that turns out. Well here she is...

Re: 1973 Super Sport...I bought it!

I got everything mounted back on with all new hardware today. Going back together is always so much more enjoyable than tearing it apart.

I also removed all of the home-made, manual porta powered tilt and trim system someone engineered sometime along the way. I also put the Mercury powered tilt and trim I found on lay-away... I can't go get it until next week so I thought I should make a down payment to make sure it is still there when I get back. I don't really think that demand is too hight right now for an old Mercury T&T but you can never be too sure. I put down $30 of the $150 I got it for.

I also drained the lower unit. I was really nervous about what was going to drain out. But I am pleased to report that the gear lube that drained out looked much like the stuff that I pumped back in. I was really worried about water being in there. So all I need to do now is fog the cylinders and she will be ready for a long winters nap.

I gotta give bunker a pass on this one. A chart of temperature averages here

A lot colder than I thought for now through the end of March.

Interesting. Yeah boating in less than the 30s would be a little chilly.

Working on power T&T. The top transom bracket bolts for the Merc interfere with the cylinder brackets. Should I install some lag bolts that will allow for the needed clearance? Or just fill those holes and utilize the four holes on the power T&T unit? Will that be strong enough? The lower mounting bolts don't interfere.
