Hey fireman,
Man,it feels good to have finally worked this out.At the end of the day,all the other bits & pieces [coils, kits, etc.] will contribute to a hopefully reliable rig.
The fun I've had,the typing practice I got ,and the hands-on engine maintenance skills are all good news.
Funnily enough, before I took it out I took each plug lead off while idling, and it still cut out when I took off the bottom lead. This was after re-connecting the condenser.I wasn't even going to take it out, cause I thought it would still miss for sure !!. so I will change the wiring to the top coil.
When it's going at about 80% WOT,there is barely a difference in speed when you wring it's neck for that last 20%.Hopefully,this might improve when I do the HS jet.Might even put some sea foam thru her. What do you think ??
I'm going to get another set of Champions to try and use.they can't all be duds ??
Thanks again mate ,I'll still bounce around in the forum. Oh,by the way,if your superstitious,my sign on name is rosco 11.what is today's date ?????????.

Ace! You've come back of bourke on this thing. Get some amber fluid this arvo and big note yourself on this job. You now have a bonzer donk. Crack a fat and put some clicks on that boat for me. Good luck. Just because you are done don't abandon us here. You can now help as you know all about that engine. Keep posting. There are other forums and lots of Kiwis, cane toads, crow eaters, sand gropers, as well as some from the top end on this site. I am not figjam by any means about this place but I do really enjoy it. Rage on!

Do the Champions and the NGK's have the same diameter where the boot fits over them? Are we sure the plugs are fitting the leads? What kind of 50 to 1 oil are you using? Is your gas a high alcohol blend? My bet is placed on some five cent item that isn't apparent. Good reading here!

rosco 11 Really really good to hear.

Exactly the way I felt when I got my 35 HP fixed.

A non functional Outboard is a lot worse than a non functional car. Why - because fishing and boating is primetime of your life !! When you head for the boat, loaded with fishing gear or wife and children, and the motor wont run, there is no end to dissapointment. Good you got it running and glad I could help !!

NB: The last 20% Throttle wont give you a lot, especially if your timing doesnt advance to the recommended spark advance, its written on silencer box, cant remember right now what is, but I can look it up if you want. You will also need to see if the throttle butterfly opens all the way, its adjusted by the long rod passing under stator, it has an adjustment screw somewhere underways. You can see at the empty end of throttle shaft if it opens all the way against the stop. Adjusting all these things properly is "Sync'n linck."

Harker, The connector end of the champions is the same as the ngk's. The lead & boot fit snugly.Using tcw3 oil.I don't buy fuel from places that add ethanol/alcohol.But how the hell do we know what they put in ???
Dane, i'll do the adjustments. There is a whole chapter in the manual.Till now,I've had to skip it ,and go on to the trouble-shooting chapter.I'll get this old girl humming again.
Thanks again for your help......rosco.
