This is one of two identical Silvertons we picked up recently. The one I will be restoring this winter has twin chrysler 318 engines. The other boat I plan to do next year has a single chrysler 360.

The 318's both run excellent, which is why i will be going to all the trouble of restoring this boat completely.

List of projects to be done immediately:

1.) Remove 20+ layers of non-ablative bottom paint
2.) Clean bilge-THROUGHLY
3.) Strip engines down to longblocks/trannies to prep for painting
4.) Remove rusted hot water tank
5.) Remove all battery trays
6.) Remove all remaining hardware in bilge
7.) Prime engines for paint
8.) Paint engines
9.) Paint bilge
10.) Replace cracked head (toilet)
11.) Install new Webasto FCF Heat & A/C Unit

I shrink-wrapped the boat in clear with full height over the engine compartment so I can work on the boat over the winter.

First project: bottom paint removal. Its beyond crazy-thick and flaking in a lot of places. Its gotta go.

I thought a lot about different methods to remove bottom paint, and read about many different methods and removal processes. I chose walnut blasting.

It was a little cold out so I started to clean the bilge and strip the engines down to longblocks in preparation for degreasing, priming, and painting.

Finished removing most of the bottom paint wednesday, just have the transom and a bit on the bottom left. I have about 6 1/2 hours into bottom paint removal using walnut blasting. not too bad compared to sanding. I am running over the remaining bottom paint real quick with an orbital sander just to remove whats left.

Cleaning the intake gasket material off and priming the engine blocks with hi-temp primer. Note that i plugged all the intake ports in the cylinder heads with paper towel so I dont get any garbage into the cylinders.

Had to pull this rust bucket of a water heater out. The bottom was completely rotted out. No way i would trust this electric piece of junk.

Great work so far! Consider me jealous of that sea trial, 2500 RPM on plane, should save on fuel.

LOL....consider ME jealous....I've been watching your thread of your Silverton restoration for over a month now. I ordered up a couple cans of Epifanes woodfinish gloss because of how well your doors turned out. I even printed full page photos of your doors and steps and put them on my desk at work just to show off your work to everyone at the office! I cant wait to get mine looking that good. It's on ;)

Glad to hear it! Just keep in mind, varnished wood is addicting and expensive! I look forward to the pictures and videos of the work.

I am also working on another project for a customer that is taking priority over my own boat. Its a Marine Power LSA supercharged engine with a Bravo III XR outdrive. I just bolted up the CMI headers that came in this week. Customer requested thru-prop exhaust because he wanted a quiet boat. I will be monitoring exhaust backpressure to make sure it doesnt go over the 50 kPa threshold and cause engine detonation. If it does I will need to adjust the spark curve in the ECM to compensate.
