Re: 1977 Starcraft restore

Well, it's pouring today, but I did a little more demo in the garage. I really want to get my new floor in by thursday so i can clean the garage a little...

Any advice on the easiest way to remove foam?

I've been using an axe large knife, but it's still proving to be a little difficult.

Well, I've removed almost 80 LBS of foam and I'm not even half done! It's proving to be relatively difficult and I tried using a pressure washer to blast it out but that didn't work :( I'll be posting pics soon, it's been a tough week with my mom in the hospital and I've gotten nearly nothing done, but hopefully the floor will be completely stripped by Tuesday or Wednesday.

So it's been an even tougher week than anticipated and I'm having trouble making progress.. I'm still in the removal/demo stage but I'm hoping to kick it into gear this week. Pics to follow!!

So I did some engine work today and fixed my ruptured fuel pump diaphragm and did some research and I'm thinking about using PVC boards for my floor... any thoughts? It's a bit messy, but here are the PICS to date!!

After a lot of cutting and grinding I got most of the floor and foam up. I need to shopvac everything. The stringers are staying -- they are OK!

Soon the CONstruction will take over the DEstruction!!

I can't wait to start customizing this boat and making it fun :D

Nope, Resin will NOT adhere to them and they are NOT structural enuf for a boat. DO NOT use them.

SO I took a trip to the beach today to relax and get away form my project a little, but I wound up finding an old free bimini top! or at least, something that fits my beam perfctly and I imagine was a bimini top. It has no fabric it is this style bimini

which I think will be just big enough to provide some shade for me and a passenger. Can't beat the price!! I hope it can help prevent the terrible sunburn that I got today. Tomorrow, I'm finishing this gas tank business and the destruction of the old floor, cleaning up with the shop vac, and making a trip to the DMV to get my trailer re registered.

Floor fiberglass help.

Floor fiberglass help.

Hey everyone,

I have no idea what I'm doing, but I decided I want to glass and gelcoat my floor.

Where do I start with the fiberglass. what do I need to order from US composites, how much?
I need to do about 50 SQ. ft. I think one gallon of gelcoat would suffice, but where do I start with the glass and catalysts and resins and
I know the old floor had a layer of CSM down and I think that replacing that and glassing it into teh sides would be my choice route.

Where do I start!?

Well let's start with why do you want to "reglass" your deck? What is the problem with it now?

Re: Floor fiberglass help.

The bottom side of the floor should be coated also.

One gallon of gel coat is plenty.

Re: Floor fiberglass help.

Yeah, I figured. I might even glass the bottom. WHat ELSE do I need to order? Can I gelcoat CSM? or does it have to be cloth?

I need to know everything about resins and cloths ETC that I need to in order to re do the sole completely.

Thanks

Re: Floor fiberglass help.

I'd start with 5 Gals of 404 resin, and 10 yds of 1.5oz, a Gallon of cabosil and a qt of 1/4" chopped fibers. 2 yds of 1708 for tabbing. 1 Gallon of Gelcoat do the trick. Talk to the uscomposites tech and tell em what you are doing and they will tell you exactly what you need.
