Re: Floor fiberglass help.

Just talked to my buddy and we're gonna splash her today!! :D And then finish working on her tonight... otmorrow... the next day... ETC. I go back to school in philly in a week, so we have to power through the rest of the hull stuff and then do the seat cushions. Next year the whole boat is getting a shiny new gelcoat outisde and in... :D

Re: Floor fiberglass help.

This makes me a terrible iboater ... I didn't get any video of the first splash :( but here's what happened. launched well, fired right up. sat in teh middle of the lake -- at dinner. Motor dies. won't even budge... turns out to be a loose bolt on the solenoid. Fired right back up and putted around. Top speed about 28 MPH... a little under pitched I think, but will deal with that later. No realy way to tell since I don't hve a tach.. thanks chrysler... it went really well. Just a few loose ends to tie up and cushions to make and I'll be posting up the finished product. ALso have to go back and fix up some electrical. IDK why, but the horn didn't work and the light switch bent so I need a new siwtch because it's connecting stuff inside..

I can't wait to be fully completed. :D

Looks good bud.
Deck turned out nice and the dash looks great. Is that gel coat on the dash or did you go with paint?
Windshield wiper is cool.

Thanks :D It's all gelcoat. One gallon did the whole deck, 3 coats and the dash, 3 coats. I textured it with a roller so it's not slippery and the 1708 gives it some nice traction (Rick's suggestion).

That wiper was a nightmare, but it is factory and it actually works!! it's the middle toggle switch I believe. The red one on the right is the horn, another is cig. lighter/pwr outlet and the otehr is bilge pump.

There's a PT 2x4 supporting each of the side consoles, thru bolted to the console and teh side of the bow

We made the lambo-style doors so we have storage down there for cooler, aux gas tank ETC.

Also, teh glove box is getting an outside of blue vinyl like the dash has... which was a real PITA to make, but well worth it. I'm going to start sewing tomorrow while i'm landlocked from Irene...

Re: Floor fiberglass help.

Im giving up on sewing  I have other ideas on how to do the upholstery... got the engine all sorted out and taking friends out on the lake tomorrow :) The cushions may not be done by the time we go back to school, but there is always more time. Will post pics with bench seats too.. warning.. they don't match and one is ugly, but we might replace it when funds allow..

Here she is, done for the season. Still have more work to do next year, including a compete exterior paint job.

I want to say thanks again to everyone who helped me and guided me through this process. I couldn't have done it without you all.

:D

PS -- anyone know where to get a matching rinker seat like the starboard one? I've looked all over on CL... in local marinas...

Thanks :D I don't know what I'm going to do without a project!! I have a few (building a bar and a kitchen table) but no boats!! I'm counting on iboats to help me get my marine fix for the year  I'm also looking at local marinas to see if any of them need some help on fridays (I don't have class) or something like that I think would be really fun and I would learn a ton.

Re: Floor fiberglass help.

Thanks, Jay! :D I'm really pleased with how she came out especially considering that I had no idea what "poly" was when I started, but I've learned so much and it was worth every penny and second spent itching...

I'm going home tomorrow and checking out a Merc 115 tower of power as a potential repower. I also still have to paint the outside and make the seat cushions, but that's coming in episode two, next summer..

Thanks :D I'm heading home this weekend for fall break. I'm going to try to shine up the gelcoat.. HOW!? I was thinking wetsanding... 800 then 1000 and then maybe a buffer if it doesn't look "wet" enough for me...

Re: Floor fiberglass help.

on my other one i used 1000 then 1500 wet sanding with a little ammonia in the water to help act as a lubricant, then 3m rubbing compound and then a good wax with a 7" harbor freight variable speed sander/buffer. came out better than I ever expected.

Re: Floor fiberglass help.

I've never wet sanded anything before... do I have to do it by hand? is it as simple as keeping the surface wet and sanding it?
