Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

I have been using that primer/paint on all my stuff, so if it's all wrong, my boat will prolly sink.:(

Watch out! Yur boat may too buddy! Wear your PFD:D

Menard's has the best selection on paint colors. ACE, Lowe's, HD, and all the other guys I have found usually only have one out of the three grays.

Rock on man!

I can't see any reason not to use that primer. It says on the can "...and on previously painted surfaces" which in my book means darn near anything.

Your boat is a tank, if you go down we're all screwed  :D.

Sounds good. Looks like another trip is in order, maybe tonight:).

That's what I needed to hear. I guess as long as it lasts for a year I'll be happy. Thanks EZ!

Consoles, and splashwell are painted, and I marked the holes for the transom. I just need to finish sanding the topsides and clean them, then prime the deck and topsides and transom in one shot. Maybe I'll get out there again, but I needed a break to cool off. I'm not used to this heat :(.

---------------

Another random question
Where is the best cheapest place to get marine wire? I've found GenuineDealz to be the cheapest so far. Also what gauge do they usually use to wire up lights and such on our boats? I can post or keep searching the electrical forum but thought I'd start here.

I need to throw together a electrical diagram soon, but I'm planing on using a fuse block with a main breaker going to that. Still am searching the electrical topics around here. I really want to get enough electrical done so the main things I need work then finish as the season goes along (led lights ect.)

And to remind myself I need to decide if I'm going to go with the vinyl on the side panels or not... Hmmmm :D Thinking out loud again.

Not particularly cheap but forum members rave about this place http://gregsmarinewiresupply.com/Zen/

I bought a bunch of wire there and it seems like it was the cheapest that I could find and they were very quick in getting it out to me as well. Well it was the cheapest for the 14 ga and 16 ga wire, some of thier stuff is a little more spendy than other places. But for the service that I got when I called and the rapid turn around I will go to them again.

You are so close now. :)

That Gregsmarinewiresupply looks great. They will ship to Canada USPS so I will probably be buying from them as well.

Cool thanks EZ! Never saw that one around here, I'll check it out.

Glad to hear another positive vote! I'll make sure to check it out like I said above, Thanks Kelly!

It sure seems like I am still very far away, but I'm getting somewhere. Good to hear yet another vote for the place! Thanks Sprintst!

Well primer is on everything now, well that needed it.

It looks terrible by the way... Ohh well it's primer, and I may add another coat. I'm just really trying to get this done. I'm thinking I'll just use a roller for the rest of the deck it'll be much easier.

Hope everyone is enjoying the nice weather that we've gotten (well at least the guys in Michigan :D)

Sorry for all these trippy photos, but it's the best I'm able to get. I'm just so darn busy, and don't feel like getting the camera out. Well that and I'm painting so I don't want to mess up the camera... At least it's a picture.

Topsides are painted! Whooooo this means I can get stuff on once it dries. Just need to run up to Menards to get some more paint. Soon enough!

I also started drilling my holes in my transom. I did two for now, and will test fit, then drill the rest. This is to make sure I'm doing it somewhat right! :D

Also need to place my order for wire, still working on that. Also the splashwell drains, and the new steering system.

It's time to get her back together and I'm pumped!

There's a thread on posting pictures somewhere, I would love to see some. Sounds like a nice tractor and boat! I will try checking on Facebook if I get a chance.

I just used Rusto Pro Navy Blue. I like it! Thanks Herr Mustang!

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Back again from another weekend away! I need to stop taking all these weekends off :D

Topsides should be good, I sprayed another coat quickly before I left. I stoped at the Menards near Sandusky since I was down that way and they didn't have the color paint I wanted, bummer. Just emailed Menards that is closest to me about it. So I'm waiting on that, but getting anxious.

Today I might finish up the transom holes, and start cutting out the rest of the wood I need for the side panels, and consoles. I will see...

I can probably start putting things back on the top now too! Sweet :D! Once the floor is coated with paint there will just be stuff to put back in!

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Holes are all drilled in transom, well minus a couple that meed it. Then just need to trim the top, sand the edges coat with epoxy and I'm golden. I hit almost all of the existing holes, just a couple were a bit off.

I'm going to put another coat on my topsides, either spray or roll not sure. I need more blue paint though... They didn't turn out at all the way I had wanted them to, and since it's still taped off and nothings on it I'll do it again.

I really wanted to get more done today, but I needed to fix a lawnmower pull cord and do some yardwork :(.

I'm also going to throw an order together for my drain tubes, and a couple other things. Also need to look at where I'm going to get my wire, I'm pretty certain it'll be from the site EZ posted above. Now it feels like that's all I'll be doing is buying things...

-----------------------
Also I know I had asked before, but I'm still having trouble making up my mind.

1. Should I paint, marine vinyl, or use bedliner, or carpet for behind my side panels? Leaning towards paint(quick), but was thinking about vinyl again like it was.

2. For my side panels should I wrap them in vinyl, or just paint. Again I'm leaning towards paint cause I am really anxious to get out on the water.

I feel like I'm running around in circles right now. I know I keep saying I'm going to buy stuff or do stuff, but always don't get it or to it. Ohh well soon enough I will be done, soon enough.

Hey BG, I think going with vinyl gives you good sound deadining, and helps stop vibration. It is not that hard to do and looks good. Plus it saves time cus you don't have to wait for paint to dry:facepalm:

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Thanks Dozer! I think I just need to order it... Still thinking on it now.

I ordered my splash well drains, steering cable boot, cup holders :D, new auto bilge pump (Same as EZ's), bilge pump through hull fitting, and new trailer lights. There goes another $100... Ohh well. Figuring out my electrical as I'm typing this.

Also on my side panels I'm thinking about just pulling the gun and going with marine floor vinyl for behind the side panels and up in the bow, and then marine upholstery vinyl for wrapping my side panels. That's my plan as of now. I'll see if I really like it...
