Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Well still no luck on finding a tow vehicle ... I'm going to search around again for a rental that will let you tow. I am determined to have the boat come up with us!

If anyone knows of a place to get a rental let me know. I'm going to be searching now.

I'm also going to knock out that list, of things to do, for the most part tomorrow, and over the weekend. I have a deadline of Sunday...

Lets see!

Long time lurker ( and learner! ) here and I want to thank the OP for this thread. You helped me to go ahead and seal the deal on your twin. Going to have the splashdown run this Friday and if everything works out the following week!

Welcome greju. That boat looks sweet. Please start a thread and show us lots more pics. I'm in the planning stage of a reno on my 18 SS and would especially like to see more of your interior. I've also got the same motor, too.

Welcome to the club :D! Make sure you get a thread going like gfbiii51 said. I'm glad I helped out a bit, I for sure have no idea what I am doing... There is for sure a ton of information around here on iBoats though! Good luck with the splash!

--------------------------

Well guys had another great week up north. Even without the boat. It sure was a hot one! Even up where we were it was fricken 90 during the day and 75 at night! I give a lot of credit to you guys down south :).

I also have to say I'm sorry for not getting to my to do list... I got busy. Soon enough I'll try to get more done. I did get the splashwell sealed, and found all my electrical stuff that was in the boat. I'm going to try and get that done, and get in the water again this Thursday.

This winter I'm going to redo the electrical, maybe mess with the bow section, do the vinyl for sidepanels and consoles, and maybe do snap in carpet... We shall see. I'm going to be getting very busy soon so I won't be able to do much except go on the boat if I have time.

Still looking around for a truck as well. That might be put off... Not sure.

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Hey guys! Quick update.

I've still not managed to get my list above done... All that is done is the splashwell is sealed. That was one of the main things to be done. I have just a bit of water in the bilge after a while out, some of that from getting in and out, and some splashes. I think there might be a small leak. Deffinatally a huge step up from where i could have water up to the deck in no time.

I'm also getting pretty busy now, so I'm going to enjoy the boat the way it is. Then hopefully before it gets cold, and if I get time, I'll get the outboard off again for the winter. That way she will fit in the garage(stupid small garages)... Then this winter try to get everything worked out! Let's see.

Just wanted to let everyone know. I know that I am probably repeating myself here, but ohhh well. I've heard rumblins' of a Tinstock for '12 :D :D...

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Well guys, I'm back to working on the boat a little bit. I was extremely busy with everything this fall. I've finally got some free time for the first time since August. It's kind of a nice feeling being able to relax a bit. I've been keeping up with everyone's projects, just haven't had time to post.

First things I'm working on is the garage. It's a total mess from working on the boat . Stuff is all over the place, and I need to be able to have a bit of room to work on the boat again. I started on that this weekend, and hopefully I'll be wrapping up tomorrow.

I'm thinking about taking off the outboard again. I need to do stuff to it, and I would be able to fit the boat better in the garage anyways. The splashwell needs to be taken off again, and sealed better with some 5200. It also needs some new paint. Everything else that I need to finish up is with the interior and wiring.

I think I've only got one rivet from what I can tell that will need to be replaced. And my paint is holding up surprisingly well...

That's just what's on my head now, I'm sure I missed a ton. I've got a ton of ideas for the boat right now. I'll get to those soon.

It's good to be back :D!

EDIT TO ADD: Guess it's the 1 year anniversary since I started the "resto" :) wow feels good to know that I somewhat made it...

Welcome back boatguy, I know what you mean about trying to get time to do the important things in life like working on the Starcraft. But now we have the long cold winter to work on our projects.

Hey BG good to hear from you again. In the dry dock with the rest of us again I see. Seems you got some good use out the boat this season.

I know what you mean about the garage. I'd like to build an addition so my whole rig would fit, trailer and all.

Yup the Starcraft is very relaxing for me, and important :D. Thanks for checking in Glen!

I might still take one last trip out :D just depends on if I feel like getting the ski goggles out or not. I'm halfway tempted to if we get a decent non windy day. There won't be anyone on the lake!

I have a 3 car garage, so more than enough room to fit everything. Only thing is it isn't deep enough to fit the boat with the outboard on it straight in. So I have to put it on an angle, and that just makes it awkward to work on...

Thanks for stopping by Michael!

Oh, I dunno. There might be one wierdo out there. Be on the lookout for a black Starcraft Side Console. I'm certain the captain will be going something like....

You have the full right to be a weirdo on that day!

I would still be laughing a ton if I did happen to see you out there, but it would all be in good terms :D.

BG I hear ya on getting the garage ready for the boat...it seems like I've been working on ours for a month now:)

I try to get rid of stuff but always seem to have more toys, bikes, random items, etc:facepalm::D

It's the same way for me... There is always that new tool or whatever I want, then it gets in the way later on. I need some decent storage... :D

----------------------------------------

Call me crazy, but I had the boat out last Saturday... It was cold, but not too bad. Had a good time, and ran out the rest of the gas. It's really nice being the only one out on the lake and there aren't any docks in to get in the way :).

So now my plan is to get the engine off again soon. Get that put in a decent spot on the stand so I can work on it this spring. I still need to pick up the garage a bit, but it's way better off than it was. I didn't want to take the engine off again but it will be much easier to fix some things on the transom that didn't get finished beforehand. I can also fit it in the garage better. In the long run it will save me some time.

Here's my list right now:
- Splashwell sealed better
- Check for bad rivets (a couple heads came off)
- Touch up underside paint
- Velcro/snap in carpet
- Seats
- Wire everything up
- Bench seat in back
- Waterpump in motor
- Repaint motor

I'm sure more will be added. That's just my list in my head right now :D.
I'll see what I can knock out this winter, and I will be keeping you guys updated.

Have a great Thanksgiving tomorrow everyone! One thing I'm thankful for is the great people here on iBoats! Thanks guys!

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Hey guys I'm back again! Hope everyone is enjoying the New Year.

Took the motor off again yesterday, stand is the same one that was thrown together. It works, and I only need it off for a little bit.
2012-01-28_16-59-07_817.jpg

Reason I took the motor off is because I need to take off my splashwell again. It needs to be moved up about 1/2" because I messed up the drains, and water isn't draining all the way out. Also I need to make sure I seal all those screws holing it to the transom, and the top motor bolts need some 5200. Some paint is in order for it too. Mainly just needs to be sealed up and done the right way. I knew I would probably have to. It was all thrown together last minute so I could get the boat out! Good thing is with an outboard it takes less than an hour to take it off :D Score!

Once the splashwell is addressed I'm going to think about seats. My lawn chair isn't doing it for me anymore :). If anyone has a decent price on seat pedestals let me know! I can't seem to find any that seem to be decent. I might almost end up making my own.

I've also got some interior stuff to finish up, and some will probably have to wait because of funds. I do know I need to get it somewhat wired up as well so I'm not touching the bilge pump to the batter to pump out water lol!

Ohhh one more random comment... I might be getting a '99 F250 7.3L Crew cab! I'll keep you guys posted on that one. It will be a pretty major drain to funds on the boat, but worth it imo!

Yeah it is time I started working again. You're really moving farther than I am Jas! :D

If I really have to I can throw my boat back together to use it in time for the summer like I did this year. I'm getting really good at taking off and putting on outboards .

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

OK guys I've been trying to figure out my carpet situation. If anyone thinks I'll get a better response starting a thread I'll do that, but thought I should post here first.

I've got my epoxy/sand mix for my floor. Works great, but since I mainly use the boat for fun it's really touch on your feet when barefoot. I want to put in carpet, but want to make it removable. I really don't want to have to go to someone to do it, but I want it to look decent. Here's what it looks like. Not great, and kind of bad looking but it works
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk164/cppics-webs/HPIM2507.jpg

My plan is to get carpet from Menards or Home Depot, make a template, cut the carpet to that shape. Then add some sort of fabric around the edge so it won't fray and will make it look better. I think the best way for me to do that is with glue of some sort (they make some powerful glues!). To keep it down I can go with snaps or just velcrow. Thing is I'm pretty clueless on all of this, and I need some help. Any suggestions/ideas would be great!

Like I said I will probably make another thread to get some info going :D.
