I do believe I have a good plan for snap in carpet. Reasonable $$ too. If you aren't in a rush keep tabs on my Islander thread for the details eh:)

Alright, I can wait I guess :D. I'll stay tuned but I think I'll still throw up another thread someplace when I get time. Thanks, Jas!

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Well I need to get going on the boat! Wow spring is coming quick now :D.

I'm going to order my pedestals and seats soon, and some wire, and a couple other random things I need to get her buttoned up enough for the year. Carpet might have to wait because of funds :( bummer.

Right now I've got the splashwell out again. I'm thinking about making it a bit smaller, but don't know how my clearance will be with the motor. If anyone’s got measurements that would help a ton. Otherwise I'll have to throw my motor on and check it. I just think that since I've got it all apart might as well shorten it a bit so I have more room for my bench seat there. That's my plan 2 pedestals, and a bench in the back. I'll sketch something up some time to get a better idea of measurements and such.

One of the reasons for lack of funds is a new truck! Found an 1994 F150 4x4 Supercab longbox for a tow vehicle and just a fun toy. Its got the 5.8l (Gas MPG’s will suck) and 145,000 miles. I'll have pictures up soon, but it's in decent shape and already lifted 4" with 35's :D. Only think is I've got to put in a new trans, but it was worth the price!

Hope all you guys are doing well! I've been trying to keep up with all the projects.

Sounds like you have competing interests on Break Out Another Thousand

I had a 95 7.3 turbo crew cab long box, what a great tow rig. You could hardly feel anything under 5K was back there.

Yes I do :D. But I guess I've realized it and I'll live with it. Gas won't be fun this summer, but oh well.

I really wanted an older 7.3l F250 but I couldn't find one that was decent around me. And the price was right on this one. I"m really looking forward to driving it :).

Nice tow rig man. Should be able to tailgate with the high beams on in that thing and they'll move right over for you :)

Thanks sprintst! She needs some work, but it'll work out nice I think. I love the older ford trucks like this one, just easy to work on and built pretty well.

Wow we had some nice weather today! It's such a great March! Wish we would have had this weather when I was in full resto mode last winter. Truck is high priority right now, and boat is on the back burner for the time being. Looking forward to having both working well for this summer! :D

Isn't that the truth. I've got an older Yukon where I just recently had to do the brakes after 12 years and the only thing to go was the fuel pump. Built like tanks.

It'll be cool just listening to the engine purr when you're done. I've been e-baying genuine factory parts and the cost is a fraction of a dealer price.

They really are, and with a bad trans this thing still moves along quite well. Now I just need to get it done . I've been looking at ebay for parts and such, and it's a real good idea. Can't wait to get the truck done along with the boat.

Well I've been online today looking for parts and such I need to put into the boat still. Lot's of money might be going away soon it looks like :( but that's a boat and a truck for you... B-O-A-T lol

Spring is here in Michigan now. Past two or three days have been all above 70 so I need to get moving! I'll have the trans out of the truck hopefully by the end of the week.

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Hey guys I'm still around. Had some family things come up, and I've been busy. My uncle passed away suddenly the day after my last post. It was the 19th and not expected. He was a huge part of my life and everyone he knew. He had a boat when he was a kid, and was on the same exact lake I go on all the time. He was always interested in my projects, and was very happy when I got the truck even though it needed work. :(

I've got my truck running great now! Took care of the trans by myself and it drives great. Now I just need to get the exhaust back on and get the plates. Felt good getting that out of the way. It'll make a great tow rig I think.

I've got a spreadsheet at the moment of everything I still need to get. Trying to get the best price for everything as I possibly can so I'm taking my time and putting off spending the money. I am going to put in my order for seats tonight, I need to stop putting that off. I'm going with these http://www.wholesalemarine.com/p/WIS-WD588PLS-660/ they should work good on the springfield posts I'm going to get.

Also yesterday I played around with the transom. Filled in my old splashwell holes with some 5200, and I'm going to sand it down a bit and paint the whole transom. Then I need to get my splashwell back on and I'm good to go. Right now it's easier to leave it it's full size than changing it because I need to get it all back on.

Now here is my idea for a bench seat at the moment. This is just getting a better idea. I'm thinking around 11" for the base, and then a 12-13" depth. Not very big, and I don't think I will ever put cushions on it because it would make it too big. Input is welcome here, and I'm going to sketch up something very soon to get a better idea. This was just a trial run :D.

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Ok I've got boat seats and pedestals now :D, and my splashwell is back on and looks much better! Still needs touchup paint for all the spots that I messed up. Now I have to order electrical stuff and I'll get it all working.

I will post up some pics tonight of whats been going on. Also will need to post my idea about my bench seat. I've tried it out and think I've got the right height. Now just to build it so it'll support weight and be removable.

We have some nice weather coming so it's time to get working! :D

Very interested to see what you come up with for the bench seat! What height did you settle on?

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

I've still gotta check a couple things, and I'll post up my plans tonight hopefully. Right now the height is to 11" for my boat (deck to top of ply for bench). It's not going to be padded or anything so that's not a concern.

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Here is my splashwell now. Much, much better than before! I'm going to sand it quick, and then tape it off and give it a coat of the navy blue. That way it'll look finished.

Here's my idea for the bench. Just testing height here. Instead of going 11" I'm going to go with 10".
2012-05-01_16-58-03_523.jpg

And here are my plans. Yes I know they suck  I'm going to draw out some new ones tonight.

Hardest part on the bench will be making it sturdy, yet the ability to move it quick to get to my fuel tank/battery. Still trying to think about that and keep it light as well. Maybe I can rip a 2x4 and make a frame around the 1/2" ply. Then add another 2x4 running to the floor in the middle. Make the whole bench hinge forward maybe? I'm open to suggestions/links whatever! :D

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

I've been pondering the bench for a year now. I have an aluminum framework kinda roughed in but need to put some more thought into it. I'm making the seat back removeable for entry/exit off the stern and the seat bottom needs to be hinged or removeable to access batteries, batt. switch, fuel filter.....

I think I'm way over thinking mine....

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

It is kind of hard to try and figure out a good design that will be stable and sturdy, yet still removable quickly. I doubt you're overthinking it :D. Feel free to post up some photos of what you have now. We can try and compare ideas and figure something out.

What I am thinking is a hinge on the seatback so that can fold forward. Then also a hinge on the base part so that it can all fold forward and get out of the way. Still not sure, and I want it simple, sturdy, and removable. lot's of thinking...
