Thanks EZ. I actually don't have a Walmart that close to me... I'll be at Bass Pro soon to check out seats, and if the price is decent I'll get it there.

Although I have never been to a Bass Pro, the words price and decent just don't sound right:D

Well that is cool that prices are not to bad for Bass Pro. I just figured that they would be like lots of places like that and be spendy:cool:.

Yea no kidding with the Wal-Mart, since there are nearly 10,000 of em world wide. And who does my wife work for:facepalm:?

Yup you're right they really aren't bad. The really funny thing is I looked, and the bass pro is actually closer to me than the nearest Walmart :p. I never shop at Walmart so I didn't even know where the nearest one is, and it really isn't close :D. Can't beleive I was right

Yup they really aren't bad prices. Comparable to some online retailers with some of the products.

Like I said above, I actually don't have one close :D.

Well I got my lower unit oil, same stuff that Huron got up there ^^. I'm happy, I guess I could have went to the dealer, but it's not like my motor is brand new. While I was there I looked at there LED trailer lights, I was checking at every store I was at today, they had almost exactly the same ones off of my trailer in LED. The price was good just $5 a light, and that was cheaper than the rest of the stores. These are those little amber squares that go on the middle/front part of the trailer. I read that they were important, and my old ones were gone.

I've almost got everything wired on the trailer, just need to finish those, and figure out why one tail light is not going on. Bad ground I'm going to assume. I've soldered and shrinkwrapped all my butt connections. I thought that would be better than the little wire nuts provided. Just need to get that stupid light to light!

The trailer fenders are painted now too. I will get pictures/video up sometime. Sorry guys I've been tryin to get things done, and video isn't one of them right now...

Hoss it sure was a great feeling! I had to keep asking my friends if I was actually on the boat or if it was a dream. Almost took a dive in the water to make sure :D. I'm working on video right now, I'll get it done let it upload and go out and work! :) Thanks Hoss!

Video upload failed  trying a different browser now.

Trailer wiring is good now. Figured out it was a ground issue... That's what I though in the first place anyways. Also got my fenders on, and bow seating in.

I think I'm just going to throw in my old seats for now, and next year I can somehow fill the holes with epoxy and put in ones I like better. As much as I hate to drill into the wood, I need seats! I need to save up a bit, and I have other things I want first... I'll see...

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Sorry for how long this took guys... I've been extremly busy this past holiday weekend. I did get out last Friday again though. Pulled some tubes, and gave the boat another shakedown. Still have some stuff to do before I can take her up north, but that will not be too hard to do a couple things.

Here is the video I promised (TURN DOWN VOLUME):
The wind noise is very loud...

One thing I noticed last time I was out was how low the boat sat in the stern. I'm wondering if I need to get a gas tank to sit in the bow, or something to move weight around. Just getting on the boat will get water into the splashwell through the drains... Hmmmmm any suggestions?

Sorry for all the edits... Tried to get the video to show up, maybe it will now?

With a heavy V4 outboard she will probably sit a bit low in the water at rest.

That's the main reason I might opt for a 3-cylinder 70hp, to keep the weight down.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the boat:D

That makes sense... :D It's not terrible, though. Just thought I'd ask. Thanks Huron!

Forgot to add... Also got a quick ride on a newer Bayliner with a i/o Mercruiser this 4th... Glasser! I'd say that maybe I will make the switch to an i/o if I ever got another Starcraft. I would at least think about it, as long as it is not an OMC! I kinda liked the little rumble in the back :D.

Yup, yup! Video isn't great, but I think it works :D.

It is now a possibility in my head. Maybe a 18' or 22' SS V5 with a 4.3L (that would be fun!)

My 16' Jupiter with the V4 on it http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/Boat Project/DSCF0170.jpg Little low there too.

Funny, after spending time on my friend's Islander with the 3.0 I/O, it has only more firmly cemented my hatred of I/O's :D

Glad to see that picture! Mine looks about the same as your Jupiter sat.

How did I know you would still hate the I/O's ;). I could see how much of a pain they would be, but it's always a thought!

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Well next week would have been the week I wanted to take the boat up north... Not going to happen, unless there is a miracle :(. I really wish I could, but I don't have a good enough tow vehicle, and the boat still needs a few things made right.

As of right now I'm looking for a truck, but gas is killer. The Ranger that you saw above was borrowed. I would love one, but when they are more than a F150 then there is no point in it... Unless I can find something by this Sunday, then boat is for sure a no go.

Then there is still my bit of a list of stuff to finish. I'm going to try to make a list of stuff that needs to get done before I would even think of going anywhere far with the boat.

-Trailer bearings check (bearing buddies filled)
-Check the tires
-Cut off splashwell drain excess
-Seal up the transom/splashwell with 5200(should have been done to begin with)
-Install port sidepanel (old one for now)
-Wire up bilge pump
-Wire up lights
-New battery
-Battery hold down/in battery box
-Get bow area canvas on?
-Paint transom that is exposed

So I guess it's not much at all. Seeing as it won't be going up north I can do some of these things as I feel like it. Guess I'm just kinda bummed out about it, and the heat is really not helping. I'll be inside searching for tow rigs for now, maybe go out and tackle a couple jobs...

That list is pretty minor. Couple of evenings and your good to go. Borrow or rent a truck maybe? I know what you mean about the price of trucks.

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

I agree the list is very minor, nothing that I couldn't really go without anyways. I've looked around the whole family for any car with a hitch. All will be in use that week. Renting I've looked at Enterprise, and mention the work tow, and that is a no go. So unless someone has another rental company other than u-haul then it's not going to happen. I did find a truck that I'm going to call on, but I don't know if I feel like spending $4,000 right now...

What's you daily driver? It don't take much to pull a 16' SS. Whatever it is, put a hitch on it and go. Your going to wish that boat was with you......

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

DJ, the car with the hitch is a '07 PT Cruiser (loser). That's how I have gotten the boat down to the launch that is 2 miles from our house. To tow a farther distance I would at least want something like the size of a small SUV to feel somewhat comfortable. Or at least a car that isn't falling apart. The PT has been in the dealer for warrenty stuff more than it has been driven it seems. Now it's becoming too much to fix, so a new car is going on the list. I drive an '88 Ford Taurus station wagon. It has seen way better days, and for a 3hr drive with a boat it's in the same position as the PT.

I know our boats do not take much at all, but I've got a ton of uses for a truck right now. I am also working on a '97 Blazer to get that fixed so I would have another option, if I feel like the truck uses too much gas or whatever.

Just trying to think things through... Sorry for going so out of topic with everything. Sorry for bashing the PT so much, but that thing has had so many problems, and it has been taken care of really well. After all the work on the boat I know I sure want to take it up, and getting it ready for the trip was one of my main motivational resources. I would look at the lake and probably cry...

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Man do I hear you on the truck situation. When we got the Jupiter we towed it with my '00 Buick Regal for 2 seasons. It towed OK but I wouldn't want to go any distance with it and it wasn't good on the ramps. We decided to look for trucks. Well as you've seen, >$5k does not buy you a decent truck. It gets you a pile of rust with 150k+ miles on it. We lucked out and found my '90 Chevy on ebay and got it for $3500 completely rust free. Unfortunately it wasn't as mechanically sound and I had to put an engine in it . Fortunately it has cost us very little since then (we've had it over 5 years). It just got $350 worth of brake line work today but apparently passed inspection otherwise, thank goodness. Guess it will hang around another year. I was really worried it would need a bunch of other stuff and I'd have to make the decision to sell it since it's essentially irreplaceable without taking out another big car loan. Thankfully we bought an '05 Jeep Grand Cherokee last year so I have redundant tow vehicles. Starting a basement finishing project here soon though and I told my wife not having a truck was NOT an option.

You hit it right on the head for everything EZ!

I don't like towing far, or at all, with the small car. Trucks are stupidly expensive . They come in handy a lot though!

Still not sure what I'm going to do though... I've got one that I should probably jump on, but like I've said $4g is not looking good right now.
