Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto
Thanks Lewis! Another aluminum guy? Sweet!

Have you put any pictures of your boat up?
The way it looks to me is that the deck should just be secured to the ribs, and the deck coated with epoxy and just leave the sides open. Then the water can flow down there on the sides if there happens to be water. This is how my boat was from the factory, there wasn't any type of seal.
But you have a good point, and now I'm wondering if just leaving it open is a good idea and what I should do. I would think trying to direct all water to the bilge would be a good idea(like on a glass boat). I am planing on copying Jasoutsides sand treatment on the deck, so that might do something not quite sure though. Hmm hopefully someone will jump in here.

Ok so now I have two pieces of the deck in for their first test fit. The middle one needs a bit more of a sand. I'm trying to cut them just a tad larger so that I don't have too many screw ups later on. They all need a bit of sanding before epoxy, and I will need to try them with the stringers in later.
So I made the cuts here. Much better!
You can also see my 2x4 clamped to the transom. I've got some more aluminum backers drying at the moment.
Middle portion cut. I really can not cut straight, so that means a bit more sanding. Good thing these will for the most part be hidden .
Ohhh man the excitement is growing! Just need to get some rivets tightened up and Gluvit down before this goes in.
It's a good sight when new wood is going down
