Re: 1978 Starcraft Holiday 18 Rebirth

Got the foam all situated in the boat, I was contemplating if I should get some more. Went back and looked at my pictures of the old stuff and Im convinced I have as much if not more than factory and better floatation. I even raided all the pool noodles from the pool box after dark via flashlight so the wife didnt catch me.

I dont know, maybe just one more thing to be certain she'll stay above water..........

Nice job on the flotation even the pink panther looks confused by that soap jug:) How many sheets of foam and what thickness did you use? I'm still trying to guesstimate how much I'll need.

I was laughing the whole time I was cutting the hole for it. More so because I was thinking what would be going through someones head if they ever pull the floor back up in 30 years.

I bought a 2inch and a 1.5" sheet, then I had probably another 1.5" sheet worth of scraps that I had leftover that I did the bow area with.

Thanks dozer, had to show my bottom feeder pride!

Re: 1978 Starcraft Holiday 18 Rebirth

Didnt get a whole ton done this weekend, spent most of yesterday building a bird feeder as requested by my daughter. Came out pretty nice, might take up bird feeders instead of Starcrafts for a hobby, its alot cheeper anyways........ nahhhhhhh :D.

So anyways...... the deck is in, need to finish screwing it all down yet. Sure is nice having something flat to walk on in there.

I'll be watching for a review on those light strings buddy. I have yet to make decisions on my under gunwale lighting and such.

So you get 10 strips of 24 bulbs? Am I reading that right? Sounds like a sweet deal.

Thought Id post an update and give my review on the LED lights that I had ordered off fleebay as promised. Its kinda hard to show in pictures how bright they are but I can say I am pretty dang impressed by these things. I first hooked one up middle of the day and they are bright, like dont stare at them bright. I took the pictures after dark, the one looking into the interior of the boat is just holding one up and pointing it in from the side with all other lights off, the picture sitting on the battery is with the lights on in the garage. I give em two bottom feeder pricing thumbs up!

Other than playing with lights Ive been removing all the paint from the bow, gunwales and splashwell. Everything in my garage is now covered in orange dust..... and myself. The wife is happy  . On a sad note my trusty old black and decker orbital hand sander bit the dust today, its been limping along lately but after what sounded like plastic gears shattering inside she dont spin no more. New tool shopping in the morning!!!! :D

Yah, that paint dust is a drag, I turned into a smurf when I was doing that work.

Thanks for the review on the lights buddy:)

I'm not a super fan of Ridgid tools, they are pretty good. BUT! Their lifetime warranty cannot be beat! They may even be on sale for the weekend.

Have to go check out the Rigid stuff, didn't see any on sale in the Menards adds. I wouldn't hesitate getting another B & D though, I put that thing through hell for many years.

The led lights was one of the most fun and rewarding parts of the build. :) I was surprised at the amount of light they throw and how cheap they were as well.

Re: 1978 Starcraft Holiday 18 Rebirth

What a week.....

Havent touched the boat in over a week due to being kicked out of the garage for a garage sale. She is back in her rightfull spot now and not outside all alone with a big ugly tarp over it.

So before getting kicked out I got the rest of the old paint removed from the splashwell and top surface. Also got my vinyl delivered for all the side panels. Picked up a mini fidge for the garage and built a nice shelf for it to sit on. I almost bought another boat this past weekend I found at a garage sale (12ft tin, trailer, 60's 5.5 Rude for $200), didnt have time to look it over good at the time, came back a half hour later and it just sold before I got back.
