way to go Bear! looking good. I agree with Wood, paint. From what I'm seeing on the hardness and the look of our painted hull, I'm impressed. Keep up the great work. I may be living through your progress for a little while brutha!

Re: 1979 Imperial

Hey gang,

Good progress today!

I have the transom all tabbed in! First I ground down all the excess PB from the install... Then I cleaned the itch up, and washed the area thoroughly with acetone... I proceeded to cut my 1708 tabs and tested their fit and placement... I removed the tabs and wetted out the area with ~ 200 mL of resin... I then made up a batch ( 500 mL ) of hairy PB at 1.2% MEKP and filleted any missed voids from the transom install, and built up a few additional areas for a better transition. Immediately after the fillets, I laid out 2 layers of 1708 all wet on wet. The first layer of 1708 I extended the 6" on hull and 6" on transom. The second layer extended 8" giving me a 2" extension from the first layer. I should have slowed the kick of the PB as top fillets on port and starboard sides cured before I laid the the last layer of 1708 so I have air bubbles in those spots!... Tomorrow I'll grind them down and spice in a small layer of 1807, and finally finish the transom by using two layers of 1708 for the skin... Overall I'm very happy with my results... The stern of this boat should be very strong!

Up next is flipping the hull, repairing the keel damage and painting the bottom!

Here are some pics...

Re: 1979 Imperial

Hey Gang,

Thanks once again for all the compliments and positive feedback... Not sure glassing is in my blood, but I really enjoy the process! Sure beats grinding right?

As far as an update, I've been busy with home projects, like pouring concrete pads in preparation for my Cobalt / trailer to park on. The pavers just didn't cut it any longer, so I did it the right way.... Also yard and other miscellaneous home projects have kept me occupied... I did however manage to flip the hull so I can work on the keel repair and paint the bottom. I've selected Interlux VC performance epoxy for the bottom paint. http://www.yachtpaint.com/usa/diy/products/primers/vc-performance-epoxy.aspx I've heard nothing but good reviews about this product...

I'll post some pics up tonight!

Good luck on getting the broken bolt out. Sucks dude. Is it too small to use an easy out or other maker's bolt remover?

Hope Easter goes better for your engine work.

Bruthu Bear isn't lost....I was having my doubts to be honest....Hope you are able to get that bolt out. Is that in some aluminum type alloy or steel? It probably had some corrosion and was binding the threads up. Seeing that the slot trick didn't work, you might try an extracter like JB suggested. Use a punch the make a center mark though, just in case it still doesn't come out. You might end up having to drill it out like you were taping it for the first time. Be careful if you do try to run a tap in it. Small partial turns and back out all the way, then blow some compressed air from an air nozzle to clear the chips out. Slow and easy and it might come out alright. Or....you could drill it out for the next bigger size bolt. Not that I think about it, I think that is what I would do if the extractor doesn't work. Make sure you don't break the extractor off too. Then you are SOL.

Happy Easter!

Great job bear ..... I am no expert but you might want to check with Woody or one of the glass guys but I think if you finish your layers with CSM it will be a lot easier to sand and you won't end up with that textured look. Again, I am no expert.

This ^^^ is true but. If you don't care about the textured look then your method is ok. CSM would make it smooth.
