Thanks everyone...

Progress feels good!

So I found a trolling motor on craigslist for $300... It's the one I'd like for this boat... It's $600 new.... $300 would buy a good chunk of glassing supplies! But it's still an expense either way! What should I do? Part of me says "well Bear your not gonna float sooner with a trolling motor!" As Jas would say RAT FARTS! I hate stuff like this! I'd love some perspective.....

Asking $300, offer $175, settle on $225+/- Get JL to growl at him if he refuses

Of course, once it's floating, you can fish, & maybe you could use a paddle...Or lasso JL & have him tow the boat.....

A non-floater w/ a trolling motor = no fishing. And no trips to the lake for JL either......

Everybody has to sacrifice something, any chance of a repo situation if you stop payment on the knee check?:facepalm:
It's almost bikini season, cutting JL back on a 1/2cup of kibble per day til May ~ Lets you add the savings to the boat glassing supplies fund, and helps him loose some of the post op bloat!

Actually, I would probably skip 2 meals before letting my best buds miss 1!

Man you guys have gotten fancy with your transom clamps. I just parked a Car on mine

I just piled bricks on mine..of course mine was A LOT smaller than the rest of you guys!

Morning gang!

Some forward motion yesterday, and most likely today...

Yesterday I managed to get my 2 x 4 x 4' clamps drilled in preparation for laminating the transom. I still need to cut my threaded all into 16" sections.

I also finally cut some ply! both 3/4" pieces are cut for the transom! I'll laminate them today and let cure, then sand where the edges don't completely match or line up, and most likely use a router to round some of the edges before I glass... I should be making my glass order this week. I decided to go with Express Composites due t location/lower shipping costs http://www.expresscomposites.com/ very nice family run outfit recommended by a local boat builder.

Your transom cut looks great, Bear!!

Did you use a regular Jig Saw for cutting that??

With the added strength of my transom, I guess I could run for a season, and always put a bigger motor on... Like a 90 E-tec..... That is if I win the lottery!

Looks like a great shopping list! May be a dumb question, but what are the glass spheres? Is that similar to micro balloons? Im supposed to get in another shipment of goodies today too. You will run through a lot of cabosil if you use a lot of pb for fillets, etc... It works awesome though...makes it thick and hard without adding weight. Have fun brother...look forward to following your progress through this next phase because I know you will do top notch work.

No such thing as a dumb question Brother McCranney, only dumb not to ask, then mess it up...

And yeah, microballons and glass spheres are similar, but different...this is what I get from the USC site...

3M Glass Bubbles
These hollow glass microspheres can be added to any epoxy and polyester resin. These bubbles will make a lightweight, easy sanding putty for minor surface filling of cracks, holes, etc.

Q-Cells
Inorganic hollow spheres added to resins that will allow for a smoother paste than glass bulbs. Can be used with polyesters or epoxies to fill surface holes and allow for easy sanding. Not for use below waterline.


Phenolic Microballoons
(BJO-0930)
These red/purple color phenolic spheres when mixed with epoxy resins will create a low density paste compound which will sand easily and improve strength/flexibility of the cured resin. Better for large gap filling

All looks good, but I'll bet you need more then 20 brushes. They don't hold up very well to rinsing & or re-use. They start loosing bristles.

Harbor Frieght has them fairly cheap & w/ $6.99 shipping their still not to bad... $18 delivered for 36 brushes.

We all seem to be looking to win the lottery & spend more on our boat repairs & motors I keep forgetting you gotta be IN it to WIN IT:facepalm:

That list is pretty close to the one I am working up...

At least that vendor is in the next door state...how bad are they hitting you for shipping and hazmat fees...or can you take a drive over and pick-up???
