Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

I don't know, but did everybody have to 'prove' they were human w/ a 5 digit web-bot code from each of their devices to access the forum for the 1st time after it came back on line? With additional time logging in & processing? Probably related to the recent spamming of quite a few threads just before the blackout....

EDIT:
Nice looking windshield install! Looks good w/ the slight green tint & the flat black.

Hmmm, + seats, won't be long now...

So everybody got blacked out? Cool I thought I had been banned, figured everyone had had enough of me.

Good deal jas. Really nice boat ya got there. The livewell is a cool feature, I want one.

Given that B2 has recently joined the ranks of the 'spoken to about the # & status of boat hulls in & around the yard', perhaps the iboats widows got together & sent an Admiral's directive to the iboats server

Yep, I couldn't get in at all for a day or so, then had to prove my humanity with a 5 digit code... :)

Hey doesn't that splash vid belong on that other boat web site, ... something about screaming and flying, looks like you were doing both.

Awesome.

Sorry to chime in a little late but work and hackers got in the way.

Glass looks good,

I was going to say looking good, but I'd have to be able to see the progress.:D
Nice job on the s/b side windshield.

No pics = basically you just made that all up.

Sad, really. A man of your learnedness and culture risking his standing as "one of them" all for what? I can only suppose it's some type of aluminum poisoning. Let's just hope it's not fatal.

I have heard, however, that fiberglass cures all. Just sayin'............

I get what I deserve:redface:

Just pretend this is the pre-Internet days. Unless you belonged to a boating club, no one saw the results until you dropped her at the ramp. And then only a few were able to ew and aw. Now days legions follow along and critique every step, pretty much anonymously I might add. I have faith you haven't started turning out shoddy work when you're so close to the end.

Thanks for the vote of confidence GA, appreciated!:)

Few shots of the seats and windshield installed...

These seats look a whole ton better sanded and painted up flat white! I really didn't want to but I'm glad I took the time to do it.

Just need to get the cushions installed, eh.

I have to give George one more great big thanks for the hook up on this windshield, it's awesome! It seems to fit this boat perfect and I love that green tint, super cool!

Looking sharp...very classy...can't wait to see how fast you'll be going when you actually have a seat to hold you and a windshield to help keep your eyes from watering...I'm thinking you'll hit warp factor one...

That windshield really is just perfect. The flat seats look much better than the gloss also.

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Thanks gents! I am really excited how the windshield and seats are looking in there!

--------------------------------------------

OK, so we are supposed to leave in a few hours for the lake and I'm struggling this morning, rats!

I started the hatch install. Well, I build them to fit spot on perfect. Of course once the hinges are on they torque/twist just a smidge. So here's the stern deck...
P1090289.jpg

The two side hatches are very close but both need to have a couple of edges sanded down so they sit flat. The center batt hatch fits perfect!

Here's the bow deck...
P1090290.jpg

Port side is close. The bow anchor locker is off a bit and the starboard side is way off. Then of course I had to go and run out of screws to finish the fish box:facepalm:

Now on the engine cover/decal color issue. I stopped at Menards and found this...
P1090287.jpg

It's "Canvas White" and is just about a perfect match with the E-Tech decals. So I painted up the cover...

Problem #1, this is a fair bit darker than Rusto Pro white so I fear it'll look really bad next to the boat and of course the lower half of the engine.

Problem #2, this is drying way slower than Rusto Pro so getting it back on the engine will be an issue.

Problem #3, there ended up being a spot where it wrinkled up on me for whatever reason, bummer.

I prolly should have left well enough alone.

So now, I dunno even what to do with this whole engine cover/color/paint issue.

Most people don't color coordinate their motors and boats... it'll look fine.

Problem #2, this is drying way slower than Rusto Pro so getting it back on the engine will be an issue.

Run it without the cover today.

Problem #3, there ended up being a spot where it wrinkled up on me for whatever reason, bummer.

I can't see it in the picture. I doubt anyone will notice, will the sticker cover it anyway?

I prolly should have left well enough alone.

I don't think I did this right because I think my comments will be in quotes, thus making Jas look a little crazy. Then again, he was probably thinking it anyway...

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Run the engine on muffs/barrel and if possible set the cover on the motor & 'bake' it dry. Maybe just on the warmed motor, after you shut it down. If you have concerns about color match/wrinkled paint, if baking it dry does any harm to the paint, you were headed down the re-spray road anyway... Same for using some halogen work lights set up as a temp oven in the garage.....

It's still kind of sea trials (for the seat, windshield & hatches anyway:)), run it sans cover until it has some more time to dry, sitting in the sun at the lake, or back of the 'burb.... Of course taking a fresh sprayed cover w/ you & in the 'burb has problems too: Wet paint & travel, plus fumes:(

Came together looking great! Hope you get the cover dry & have a blast today....

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Put the cover aside and deal with it when you are not rushed or pressured. I've never had anything good happen when I tried to rush paint/finish.

Take a deep breath and enjoy the day...family, water, boat. Compare that to a perfectly painted motor cover...and move on.

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Well, very sad news today. Last night one of our grandmas (sis in law mother) had a stroke. She's doing ok but still in the ER. She's a super cool woman, very sad news for our family.

Boating postponed...

Sorry to hear about your sisters MIL. Hope she pulls through it strong. A stroke is never a good thing nomatter what the severity. Stay strong, the boat and your audience will be patiently waiting.
