Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Tell ya what guys, I was very happy with the day yesterday! The boat trailered, launched and landed like butta! Handled very nicely, crused easy, trolled well (2.5 - 2.8ish), felt very solid, seemed to have great balance, and man did she have power!

I yet need to figure the kill switch and feel good about the idle, but it's all good.

Morning progress...

I also went back and hit the windshield with a flat black. I think that will show nicer than a gloss eh...

I shaped up this foam for the stern bench/deck/hatch combo with fries. Off to the upholstery guy this afternoon though I don't think they will be done for this weekend.

Fast fact, those ^^^^ were generously donated from Thumper the Baja:D

OK guys, I'm happy to hear your advice on my engine decals. I actually have two sets here on hand and am kinda on the fence.

These were actually make for an E Tech, super cool!

I got this swoosh I could stick on too if it seems to work...

Now here's the hitch though. These have a background and they are obviously made to match Evinrude white rather than Rusto white so they are just a shade darker...

Not by a lot but noticeable...

Will that bug me? Does that bug you?

All right, the other set I have are these black ones...

If I go this route I'll likely paint the engine cover gasket flat black. If it's still too plain Jane I may add a pin stripe in there, maybe.

So what do you guys think eh?:D

Really guys? Man, I'm really on the fence like 50/50 here:confused:

Yah, that swoosh I can actually make fit and trim a variety of ways too.

Hmmmmm, I'll need to stew on this one for a couple days...

I'd go with the first set with the swoosh if it were mine....

SWOOSH with the red outlined letters. A man going by on a galloping horse (or speeding glitterboat) will never notice the slight background difference. And after a while neither will you,

BYW - How did the water temp gauge work?

First one (with swoosh) - no contest... I would have never even noticed the difference in color and still hard to see even after you pointed it out....

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Wow really guys???

All right, all right, I hear ya loud and clear. New school E Tech decals it is! It'll increase the value of my OB by thousands by just sticking those on!

I'll move that swoosh around a few different ways and see what the best fit might be.

One thing I could do would be to re paint that OB Evinrude white but man, what a pain in the rump that tape job would be, ugh.

GA - I spent all that cash and time building in those sweet gauges and didn't once look at them on my trip:rolleyes::redface::facepalm:

I would go for the newer e-tec style decals. They would make for good conversation :)

Defensive driving, watching out for tri hulls hooked to ski tubes, weeds, shallows, my eyes being a little blurry from the wind, and being totally amped I was racing around in a boat that I just built from scratch all contributed to me ignoring my gauges  Yah, next float we'll take a gander:)

Yah, they kinda cracked me up when I ordered em:D

Catching up on your project. There might be one more Evinrude decal set out there somewhere. Congrats on the splash, it's all looking great!!!
