Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Ethan landed the first fish on the new Sea Nymph, he was amped!

Then Ryan reeled one in too, and he was amped!

So I salvaged this baitwell out of a rotted glasser, freebee. After a little bit elbow grease and creative boat building, here's the result...

Today's value of that baitwell? Priceless.

We sure didn't catch anything big today but we had a few. Enough to feed three hungry fishermen...

So yup, today was a great day:D

MMMMMM, Bluegills...very tasty...

Looks like the captain and crew had a supercalafrajalisticexpyaldoshus time...:D

BTW, have you checked the automotive "Duplicolor" line of touch up paints at the local auto parts...maybe you can find something real close to the Evinrude color...

Another idea, although a bit on the expensive side, is to go to an auto paint and body supplier, and have a pint of the color matched up...good thing is you can get it in any formulation you want from good old durable Enamel...all the way up to a fancy Urethane...

Boating, fishing and fine dining. Sounds like a great day. :D

All the little touches are perfection. I'm gonna say this, don't be mad at me. I don't see much, if any difference in the decal/cowl color. Maybe it's my old eyes or the glare from the flash. I say stick 'em on and live with it. Or trim the decals and get rid of as much of the white background as you can.

That's what it's all about. Can you have a day like this a really tell us you're going to obsess about the off-white background of decals on the engine cover?

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Thanks guys, man it was just such a great day yesterday, loved hanging out with the boys on the new Sea Nymph! I was catching visions of future fishing trips and family fun, this is going to be a great rig:)

I'm really glad I was able to get out a fish a little before I actually finish up. I can see a number of minor tweaks I'd like to go through to make it a bit more comfortable/useable.

I hear ya on the decal color differences fellas. GA, I actually considered trimming back the surrounding white around the lettering. We'll see how that shakes out.

Oh, by the way, here's the first of the fish blood on the deck...
IMAG0329.jpg

The rest of the day saw more and worm guts too. I haven't cleaned it up yet but I suspect just a bit of water and a soft scrub brush should clean it up pretty quick.

All right, this should be way low on the list of important things to get done but I was kinda excited. This is a brand new Detmar swim platform. Lists at $140, I eBayed it for $38.00 :D

As you can see, I can't be bothered with different shades of white now;)

That will be sweet for tubing/swimming/skiing ^^^^!

A day of fishing! :D

2nd decal design gets my vote too.

Be interested to see how the platform works out tubing. I'd like something like that but it looks like it would get got by the rope.

I don't think I would trim the decals,.....

It would be very hard to get it right and I think you'd end up with jagged edges that would really drive you knutts,...

Don't discount the value of the swim platform,..........It's good to have a way back into the boat should you go overboard unexpectedly,...As well as for swimming and tubing,....

Thanks SMG, yah, I feel like I am close, then my list seems to grow! Ugh, I gotta get there some day!

It looks like my ski rope should be aok. I think eventually I may install some sort of ski pylon though;)

Still stewing on the decals:facepalm:

Yah, you are very right. Man overboard, fully clothed, shoulder season on one of the big lakes, exhausted, that platform quickly becomes a safety feature actually.

Man, I guess I'll be "Mr. Blunt" and say that selling that JetStar (as awesome as it was) may have been the best thing that ever happened to you... Seeing those pics of you and your boys - just awesome...

Oh yeah, the admirals not dumb -- let's see - the 3 wild men get out of the house and I hang here with McKenna - yeah, I can live with that - rinse and repeat...

Also, regarding the above re: fish blood and worm guts... they add character..., but, you can get a pump that the doubles as livewell filler and raw water wash down...They are like 50 bucks... I am thinking about putting one in mine...

GREAT JOB!

The Jet Star was an awesome boat, loved it! Do I love this one even more? Yes I do:)

You know what I was thinking? I may put a T in the baitwell fill line for a washdown hose. That pump might have just enough umph for just a light deck wash.

Oh ya, McKenna musta called you. Both the girls commented (many times) what a great day they had when we were all out of the house.

Ha! I'll take it!:D

Yah, the Islander may need to wait a couple more months. A little fall time fishing and two years of bow hunting postponed will take me up through Christmas pretty much;)

Hey - After fish blood and worm guts (and more to come tomorrow) along with an off-color swim platform the decal mismatch doesn't matter as much now. I vote for #2.

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Well friends, another awesome day at the lake!

I woke up early and did some upholstery work and installed the two cushions on the front side of the consoles, nice!
P1090390.jpg

I also stuck on some grip tape to each of the four steps on the trailer...
P1090391.jpg

Then I got the boys up early for the last fishing trip of the summer (school starts tomorrow)...
P1090394.jpg

Ry checking out the new cushion, he likes it...

Ethan was pumped to be on the water...

We almost got skunked but Ethan hauled in this monster!
