Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

I spent some time bundling up the spaghetti spilling out of the engine...

Here's a shot of my cleaned up controls, not too shabby for 30+ years old eh...

Quick question if any of you guys happen to know: I have two wire harnesses coming out of my controls. One set is obviously the T&T. But I don't know what these are for???

In the parts list for a 84 90hp, the remote control shows a battery cable + & - running to the control box. Part #87 in the 1 of 6 model #'s I looked up....

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

An '84 was set up to have a kill switch clip lanyard as a dead man/overboard switch, & an the ignition key, both as part of it's remote control box...

Which remote is this again? Hard to keep what parts came from what dead glasser straight :)

Oh, and then to have to remember the year, make & model of the relevant parts

1 diagram of the 6 models from '84:

Yah JB, sorry, different controls.

These are OMC, year/model unknown. Ignition switch is completely seperate on these so I can't think it would be for kill switch. Appreciate the effort!

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Somewhere on 1 of the control parts there should be an OMC part #....

For a 60's bow light of unknown year & make, that came on the Jet, there's a small # cast into the interior, 6250-02, w/ that & marine bow light, my best bud google found the exact match Attwood light.... $90 on flea-bay:eek: Carp, should have paid the $30 & replaced it:facepalm:

There's no #'s anywhere on any part of the control box? May have to crack it open or look at the 'back', but since you're considering putting some silly-cone behind & under it, maybe that won't be such a big deal to pull it out for a #....

From a post on TheHullTruth:

SeaBOB4:
On a side mount OMC binnacle, without the keyswitch built in, there will be 2 sets of wires. One set, red, green, and blue, is for your trim and tilt switch. The other set, 2 wires, yellow w/red strips, are your neutral safety switch wires. __________________

Flux capicitor? Nah, can't be. Mine is like 2000 HP fed by a 6 inch fuel line:D

Neutral safety switch? That makes some sense!

Mad PS skillz see how that makes it just disappear? It's like the controls are just floating there. I like it.

First thought was man that box is gonna buzz like crazy, hopefuly the goop holds it and kills any buzz. Maybe some of that foam tape stuff to further isolate it.

The 3M goop/sillycone should take care of anchoring the control. I didn't realize it was that close under there.

BTW - You still ain't Van Gogh. Salvatore Dali maybe. LOL

How do you activate the choke with that setup?

Yah, I think a thin bead of something (or like truck mentioned, double stick foam tape) should lock that right in place:)

Don't feel bad guys, keep practicing and you too could have photoshop skilz like me. Maybe:D

I do think this setup is starting to grow on me some;)

Yah, like concept said, this is a push to choke on the ignition switch.

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

K guys, more good stuff/dumb stuff this morning:rolleyes::facepalm:

So I decided to go after the important wiring stuff this morning. What's more important than the starting batt right? So I crimp on a pair of new terminals to the cables coming from the engine, heat shrink, yada...

Lock the new cables to the batt, looking good, all set.

Now keep in mind my main wire harness and T&T harness is just kinda coiled and laying up under the helm, not hooked to anything.

So ready for the next task I take a couple steps toward the bow and all of a sudden I hear WWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...:eek:

AAAHH! THE OB IS TILTING UP!!!! (Back wall of the garage is just about a foot and a half from the OB)

QUICK! RIP THE CONNECTIONS FROM THE CONTROLS APART! WAIT, I NEVER MADE THOSE CONNECTIONS!!!! WHAT IN THE HECK! AHHHH!!

WIRE CUTTERS! WHERE ARE THEY?? GOT EM! CUT THE + CABLE, QUICK!!! DONE...

What in the world just happened????

Well I figure somehow the T&T wire harness just moved a smidge, completed the circuit, and the OB started to do it's thing.

Well, bad news, I managed to fold up the trim tab, drats!!!

Good news, T&T is unharmed.

Man what a dope. That sure caught me by surprise!

Anyway, I did end up getting the T&T harness and the main engine ignition harness all hooked up. New ring terminals and heat shrink all around. So that was good progress anyway:rolleyes:

Hey, have an excellent Sunday guys!

Ah, no worries, happens in the best of families...

If you want to try and MAYBE save the tab, try this...wooden block as a backer and RUBBER mallet for the pounding, put on some gloves to protect the phalanges...start out with semi-hard whacks and see if it wants to budge...might even want to clamp the tab between some wood in a vice on the still flat parts...might work...have fun...
