After i called to check on my ordered and then after i ended up canceling it i was told i would get a call back, regarding the issue, never got that either. I've heard great things about them, but i just had a pretty bad experience.

sorry to hear that JP, i have had excellent service from them. might caught a guy having a bad day, not an excuse by any means. Glad you got an alternative and was able to make it work out for you so you can keep the momentum going.

jp, are you working on the power plant while you wait for fundage? good time to take advantage of it so it will not take much for you to splash her. keep plugging away

Re: 1982 AMF crestliner got it for free

Came home from work yesterday and my dad and his buddies put my motor on the boat for me! I got most of the cables hooked back up to the motor. Got the floor seams all sealed with caulking. I got and made so side panels got the screwed down and sealed the edge with caulking. I used clear silicone stuff. It holds up outside on houses all year round for many years. So i think it will do just fine on those seams. Hopefully will be getting it running this weekend. Once i know it runs im ordering a steering cable. Once i get it running, its steering cable, new prop or getting mine fix and finishing the interior and ill hopefully be on the water soon! Sucks that it wont be ready for this weekend but im still very close to being done! i Got july 4th,5th, my birth the 7th off now im triyng to get the 8th off and the 6th haha mini vacation so i should be able to enjoy the boat then!!! I also picked up a batter today when i got off work!
Hope everyone who has a finished boat gets to enjoy this holiday on the water! and those not with a finished boat like me! hope you also have a good weekend!!!

Also my uncle who gave me the boat stopped by today, took lots of pictures of the boats, to show his buddies. He was pretty impressed with the work, he just got a new pontoon! He gave me a little confidence that its going to run, he swears up and down it ran good before he parked it.

I am by no means an expert, but my thinking is glued in carpet would be the best way to go...if you just staple it in, all the stress on the carpet from walkin on it would tend to tear it away from the staples, where as gluing it down gives a more solid support...

The boat looks great with that Yammy hangin off the back...way to go...

Im ready to order my steering cable tonight, i Measured my old steering cables its in two pieces now but i measured about 15 foot, if a steering cable is to long is that an issue also what kind of cable do i need? mine went threw the engine tilt tube. Rack, rotary? All my old steering cable componets are pretty much shot, HELP!

A rotorary should work great for what you have there.

A little too long should be ok.

Long means that you'll have to put bends in it to take up footage, steering cables hate "S" curves. A lot long is a little better as you can make a big loop.

Short is a show stopper.

If everything including the helm unit are shot.....best to buy in kit form from teleflex or uflex.....both available here at iboats.....

Re: 1982 AMF crestliner got it for free

I think that there is still helpful info here about installation of a rotary steering system, although the photobucket pix are no longer available. What a PITA... Anyway the link to the marineteleflex doc is still good. On page 6 of the brochure (pg 7 in the pdf because they count the cover as page 1, again what a PITA) there is a diagram showing how to measure for a rotary system. Not that the old 1 was too long or too short, but if it's in pieces, it probably be better to just measure your current setup & follow the directions for a tilt tube installation. There are similar directions for other manufacturers steering setups, you should pick the style/setup/manufacturer you'll use for the system first & follow their directions prior to ordering a system.

If money is tight, you might try to find a deal this weekend on a system that includes a 'free' steering wheel as well, I can't remember if you want to use the steering wheel that came on the AMF or if it had 1 when you got it. The free steering wheel is a 'free' steering wheel. Ez is happy w/ the 'free' 1 that came w/ his rotary system, others are not.

You're getting close, congrats!

Re: 1982 AMF crestliner got it for free

Well guys i got my steering cable ordred today hopefully should be here by the end of the week, here is the one i ordered http://www.lowcostboatingstore.com/...FOOT-Package-w-FREE-STEERING-WHEEL_p_833.html

Got a key made for the boat, called a lock smith and he had one made in about 10 mins. Also got the battery and gas tank sitting in the boat and got my control unit installed!

Went to both wal-marts in town today to buy a fuel line kit, both were sold out and the marina was closed by 5:30 so i got a new primer, new connecters and new clamps but used the same hose for now.

THE MOTOR RUNS!!!!! VROOOM VROOOM!!!

The spark plugs are good and we gapped them properly, The motor was getting fire to it, but we didnt have the safely switch thing pulled out so we put some pliers around it until i can buy a safety quick release thing. When we first started it, it was idling super fast, turns out the bottom carb linkage was frozen, my uncle and dad were able to free it up pretty easily after some investigating.
My steering cable should be here tomorrow, the motor runs pretty decent, need to get it idling a little better but it runs pretty good so far, also am tryign to find a prop just waiting for a good deal!

Re: 1982 AMF crestliner got it for free

You want to put a prop on your boat that allows the motor to reach it's recommended wide-open-throttle RPM range with your typical load. If it can't hit that range, you're lugging the motor which can damage it. If it overrevs, well obviously that's bad as well. This is why a tach is an important gauge to have. Replacing the prop that's on there with another of the same pitch is probably a good starting point. The Solas aluminum props on iboats are under $100 and work just fine.

SPLASHED SPLASHED SPLASHED SPLASHED SPLASHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The boat isnt finished but i was able to take if out for about 20 mins or so it ran pretty well, my prop is getting repaired and i got a loner to use while mine is fixed, its a brand new alum one no charge as long as we don't damage it.

After a hour at the License branch, i realized i had no title for the boat don't need it, they did have the boat on file and its actually a 1980* also found out the it was AMF crestliner, AMF ended crestliner in 1980 and a bunch of people who worked for AMF bought the rights or somthing to the crestliner name.

The pedestal seats dont seem very safe or sturdy, so im going to use them till i can get a better seating set up!
Theres tape on the oil cap because its cracked, and i just havent gotten around to getting a new one yet. Also got a video coming soon!
