Had a great time fishing this morning and caught a few small ones and had to throw them back. The boat ran really good and still love the Lowrance HDS-7. Couple of pics.

There are sooooo many large Black Drum fish here it's hard to catch the smaller "legal" to keep drum. The slot for legal keeper's is 14" - 24" and in the remarks section of the regulation it say's you "may possess" one larger than 24". They say the larger fish are not very tasty.

Way to bloody the decks, Ron! Great job...and the blue crabs are the way to go for black drum..problem is the big ones have lots of worms. We used to plant them under our citrus trees and they would grow like crazy...

The redfish are up in the channels, not normally in the open bay. Is that the Gandy bridge I see?? Always a great place for black drum, but if I were you I would head a little toward Weedon island (west) and get a little closer to land..I know, hard to do with a 24' boat!!

Still...it's gotta be fun doing some catching. Let me know when you're ready to head this away and we can double team them...:D

I'll bet they are still a blast to catch.

"YUMMY WORMS!" Fry um up for all that extra protein! LoL For now they are lot's of fun to catch. Thinking of cruising on out the bay a little further to the Skyway Bridge area. That would give me a nice little trip from Gandy Bridge and burn up some old fuel. After that a trip over to Weedon Island, way closer, would be good with some greenbacks and go after those pesky Reds. Just have to watch the depth and make long casts! LoL

Still wrestling around with what product to use on the decks for a no skid surface and ease of cleaning. The previous owner, to sell the boat, had taken Comet Cleanser cleanded and everything nice and clean. Of course it took the finish off also and now everthing stains. I'm still inclined to go with cream colored KiwiGrip non-skid coating. Anyone have any opinions bout this product? Thanks

It's like fighting a log, in the current, and if not anchored they like to pull you around. Not much fight till you get them on top! Big challenge keeping them away from structure and breaking off. Think I'm going to buy a gaff cause my net just ain't big enough! Delicious Grouper is what we really wanted to catch but I guess the Black Drum beat them to the bait. Guess gonna have to get in deeper water for the Groupers though.

Re: 1982 GW, 24' Project (UPDATED W/PICS)

Went fishing again this morning and caught three more large Black Drum and a couple of catfish. The drum were of the same size as last week and had to go back into the water. Todays tide was really bad and my anchor wouldn't hold.

Yesterday I installed an engine hours of operation meter, got the live well working and put new rollers on the trailer. My new Lowrance LSS-1 side scan module arrived and will be installing it after the boat/fishing show this weekend here in Tampa.

Wednesday's Pics. I caught the two smaller ones and Mike caught the one bigger one.

Ok John, now I have one to tell on myself! I just back from fishing and really had a miserable time. The out going tide was ripping thru my usual spot, anchor wouldn't hold and to top the day off nicely, "I threw my favorite Penn 350 level wind in the brink!" I had slimy hands from the blue crab I had just put on and thru my rod and real right in the 25 foot water. Can't remember the rod name brand but it was a good setup! Ok guys now you can make fun of me! "I'll just go somewhere and cry."

Hope to get my Side Scan sonar installed today. I might even go looking for my Penn 350 I threw into the bay yesterday and see if my sonar will "see" it. But I guess it's probably on it way to Cuba with the currents by now. Anyone else have one of these 350 reels. I really liked mine and am going to buy another.
