Re: 1984 Silverton 34C Remodel/Update/Upgrade PIC HEAVY
Hey man, you missed a bubble!! Lmao, Sry couldn't resist. Projects are looking great man. Re-engineering layouts and where things fit goes a long way on any boat. Great job.
Thanks.
For exterior varnish it is all Epifanes Woodfinish Gloss. Expensive stuff but I like the look of it.
After a few build coats I begin to sand with 220 grit. Knock it back down flat. Then coat it, then sand, then coat... In the end I believe I got around 8-9 coats on. Sanding removes some build up, but creates a flat surface. Some trucks I've learned. Use a good quality brush. I've done it with foam but find the brush works better. Strain the varnish into another container. Brush in one direction (back into where you just varnished) with as few strokes as possible. One quick tip off after the piece is coated and before it begins to set should give a nice flat finish.
The best secret I've found, lower your expectations! If you fight to get every bubble or piece of debris out, you will go crazy. Decide what your happy with and remember only you will see the negative in the finish, everyone else will think it looks perfect!
