Thanks a ton mark! We really enjoy having some decent seating again....
On a somewhat crappy note, I had a near overheat incident and my darn cabin hatch is complete crap and cracked all over the place.
Sunday about an hour before we left, heading back from the otherside of the lake, the temperature began to rise to near 200 and I shut her down. I opened the engine hatch and nothing appeared out of order. I jiggled the water lines and felt along the length of them for holes or something. Nothing.....
After about 15 minutes of poking around there wasn't anything more I could do while on the water so I closed things and fired the engine up again. It cooled fine. I let it run for a few minutes and the temp remained constant. I idled along for a mile or so and the temp remained fine. I then shutdown and felt the risers just to be sure of things and they were fine. We cruised back to the dock without issue.

I have no idea what happend but a new impeller and thermostat should arrive tomorrow. The cabin hatch is old, cracked, and falling apart and a new one is enroute. (why are those things so darn expensive!!!!??????????)

Heres some pics of the weekend....
Sunset..

No pics of the boat. Lol.... I'll post up pics of the new hatch install for sure and may as well document replacing the impeller and therm.

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

It is indeed an alcohol stove. I love the thing...it works awesome and the fuel lasts quite a long time. We can cook a couple weekends worth of meals before the cans need a refill.

I pulled out the impeller to check it out and it is chewed up pretty good. The new one should be here monday or tuesday. I hate waiting for stuff!!!!!! I should open my own marine parts warehouse!

You may be right about catching a bag but I'll replace the impeller anyway. A couple vanes on it have lil chunks missing. I've seen MUCH worse, but it can't hurt to replace it.

On a brighter note....I ordered a new hatch for the forward cabin two days after I ordered the impeller kit and the hatch will be here tomorrow. Hope to install that over the weekend.....
The new hatch is more streamlined than the original and should function better.

I didn't wanna bid on the darn thing, I hate that, so I called the company and they gave it to me for that price and free shipping. (its on their site for $299+shipping)
I was pleased with that and look forward to the new hatch.

Any tips for installation? Just a bead of 4200 and screw it down right? (after cleaning the old gunk up, of course)

that hatch is gona be sweet,,,and a nice upgrade:D.
4200 should do great,,, hopefully all the screwholes line up and it'll be easy as pie.

i'll second replacing the impeller,,, never hurts to be proactive on the maintenance.

i also have one of those 2 way stoves,,, but i never used it. what stuff do you fill the cans with? i looked at the campfuel,,, i think colman makes it,, but i am hesitant to get the wrong stuff. lol ,,,, my lil grill i been using on the engine cover suffered "dock damage",,,,the regulator fell off into the water:eek: while preparing to get it ready for a slip lunch:facepalm:.

what prop are you running on your machine Jimmy? im prop shopping and currently i am turning a 14.5 x 17 3blade aluminum, but need some more rpms,,,4-600,,, i was eyeng up a 15pitch 4blade but the mechanic said to stick to 3. whadyathink?

Mark, denatured alcohol for the stove. Get it at lowes or homedepot. $15 a gallon or so. Pretty cheap stuff.
I'll check on the prop size, I"m unsure what i'm running currently.

Colorado boater, hope to hit the lake soon and will get some pics

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

the new hatch is in and the new impeller installed. I'll post up pics later. We had to leave the lake early today.....
I lost one of the bolts that attaches the steering fork to the helmet on the outdrive. I had NO STEERING!!!!!! It really sucked. We limped back to the dock with the admiral controlling the shifter and throttle while I dangerously sat on the swim platform and steered the drive with my foot! It was rather windy and fairly busy at the ramps. It sucked. :(

Luckily, nothing is broken. I just lost the nut/bolt. The replacement is $48 for the bolt and $11 for the darn nut.
Volvo sure is proud of their parts.

While I wait for my parts to repair the outdrive...
Heres some pics of the hatch install:

Removed the old hatch that had a crack in the glass, the plastic all cracked apart, and one latch broken off. It needed replaced.
hatch-old.jpg

hatch-removed.jpg

I cleaned up all the old caulking with acetone and a scraper. I still have a very faint ring from where the old hatch was but I think some buffing compound will get it cleared up. I was really impressed with the condition of the wood. It was dry as a bone! 1" thick plywood! I was shocked that bayliner built the boat this well.
hatch-cleaneduparea.jpg

hatch-innerwood.jpg

Of course only two screw holes lined up.....so I marked up the new screw locations and drilled new holes and filled the unused holes with 5200. I layed a fairly thick bead of 4200 around the perimeter of the hatch location and dropped the new hatch into position. Then, the screws were tightened by hand and the 4200 left to cure for several hours before tightening down the screws. Any squeezed out 4200 was immediatly wiped up with acetone. I tested the new seal by spraying down the hatch with the garden hose and I don't get any water inside the boat! yay! Always good to keep the water OUTSIDE the boat...

Heres the new hatch:

The new hatch looks SOOOOOO much better than the old crappy one. Its white to match the boat and it has a much slimmer profile.

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

I do have pics of the impeller replacement. Really simple job. I'll try to get those up later. The boat ran great after replacing the impeller, no overheat issues, and then Sunday I lost the steering....parts to fix should be here soon.

Mark, you are soooo right about the danger of losing a toe or foot. Thats all I kept thinking while doing it! I was pretty careful but still very nervous. I really didn't know what to do and I had to get back to the docks, so I improvised. I tried using a paddle....LOL....that big ol' boat ain't goin nowhere with a paddle!!!! Steering the drive with my foot was very dangerous and I'm thankful I wasn't hurt and we made it back safely. I probably should have just called a buddy to come get me.

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

I'm beginning to layout the vinyl for the stern seat's backrest cushion.... I have 1/2" plywood backer board and i'm thinking 4in of foam, maybe only 2....
Anyways, i'm puzzled on how to wrap around the backside and make it look decent????? Any advice? Use a zipper? hide-em??

please help. :)

I'm still debating how to close up the back side of the stern backrest cushion. It WILL be visible and I want it to look right....

You could always seam a piece with nice straight edges and then either velcro it on or use epoxy if it's ok to be permanent.
You see alot of cushions that have a "breathing bottom", when in truth, they probably were stuck trying to figure out a way
to finish the back/bottom. Boat's looking good, btw.

Re: 1985 Bayliner 2450 Ciera Sunbridge Restoration underway!

Ok guys, im currently anchored and sipping my coffee.
I spun my prop last weekend and am just now testing the new one. It sucks.
The original prop was Volvo C850864 which translated to a 15x19 left hand prop. So, I ordered a solas amita 15.3x19 aluminum. The blades are shaped totally different and are quite a bit smaller in surface area. It's just me on the boat and it seems like I'm struggling more than usual to get on plane.
The original prop is toast and I doubt it can be rebuilt but I don't like this new prop and I'm sure with more people/weight on board the problem will get worse.
What are my options? Prop shopping is confusing.....

Also this prop hub on the solas is much different than the volvo. It's open for like thru hub exhaust. Three little tabs attach the hub to the prop. Perhaps they shipped the wrong one?
