I like what you have done...I'm new the this forum and have really enjoyed this thread. I just brought home a 1978 21' CC last night...It has at least 4 coats of paint on it and looks rough, but the hull seems pretty solid. I'm gonna try to paint the sides from the chines up this weekend just so its presentable at the dock...I'll go through it this winter for a full restoration. Can I ask what you used for paint...I didn't recall seeing that in any of the posts?

Thanks...

when i first started i used a self ecthing primer in a spray can(was going to be too costly) i met a kid who worked at a paint store and went and talked to his boss. thats when i bought a qt of primer from him it as self ecthing and cost like 12.00 i also ecthed the bare alum with a mild acid. the dark blue on the bottom is rustolem topside navy blue @ lowes and was sprayed. the surface was not the best and it's hot as heck here and dried fast. the white in the stripe is reg rustolem paint. i waited untill late afternoon (6-7 oclock)
and brushed it on the first 5 ft. and it flowed perfectly. i later used a foam roller to finish the stripe with similar results. the stripe looks so good it almost looks like a vinyl decal.

thanks for the interest and if i can help at all let me know where are you located

Nice catch, is that rope trim? I like it, may borrow that idea ;) lol... actually I'm thinking of using the same stuff in 3/4 size for rub rail{at least till I find some less expensive real rail}.

yeah that's some rope for trim, (where did i get that idea from LOL ) when i put the brackets on the fenders i needed to cut some some to make it fit and the rope was perfect to cover it and only cost less than $5

WOW looking good jspano. Very nice work. Now if I could just get working on mine. Have you tried rubbing alcohol to remove the glue. Use a sorta rough bath rag.:D Boat is looking good, and I love the aluminum trailer.

Re: 1986 21 ft starcraft cc restore

did another leak test and there's still 1 little drip, drip, drip. it's coming from the center rib, so i'm thinking it's on the center line. and it's dripping from a weep hole about 5 ft from the stern. so i think that should narrow it, as if it was closer to rhe bow or stern it would of leak at one of those weeps.
i plan to gluvits the center 2 rivets on the ribs.

do you ever get an alum hull with absolute no leaks??

after posting she asked why i didn't step on it... i explained i really wanted to put it to the test!!!!!!!!!!!! :p

actually been fishing the past 2 saturday's with a buddy on his boat.
$$ are lean and going thru some really serious family stuff. i'll be spending some time with a loved one for the next 2 weeks and most everything else will take a back seat.
then i will get back to work on it more as therapy than anything else
i have a question for the tinny experts, the flooring butt joints, they don't fall on the ribs do they??? i was looking at my old pcs (that i have left) and they seem to just run every 4 ft having the stringers only for support.

I'm not the expert but maybe a pic of mine during the demo would help?

The first pic was of the front joint, and I think this is a pic of the one toward the back. You can make it out if you look closely (it was cut near the stringer by the PO to put a cooler in the floor).

They both appear to land on the ribs, but I don't remember if it was riveted separately to the rib itself. I "think" it was just riveted to the plywood, and also to the stringer where it crossed.

Hope this helps.

the ribs are like 10" on center so 48 " doesn't figure and all my old pcs are 4ft in length.

Re: 1986 21 ft starcraft cc restore

Hey Joe, mine uses cross pieces attached to the stringer, two sections of deck joint's share each crossing{2 cross members shown in photo}, the outer edges of the deck rest's on the ribs, the cross members do not, they probably should but I did not remove them...can't tell by walking on it so guess it's ok.
Here's a shot of mine, hope it helps and that I didn't miss read your question.

Re: 1986 21 ft starcraft cc restore

i checked the old pcs and can't see any way they will fall on ribs, now my boat has 2 stringers, which probably helps and there was some flat pcs of alum. for the butt jts but they are very flimsy. right now am only going to doing small tasks that require little time and money and prehaps in a few wks i can get back at it.
i might not post much but i'll be lurking

thanks again to all
