Hmmmm, interesting (scratching my chin as I say that out loud here)........

We are listening???

Looks great Glen! Do you have enough to complete another boat?!! :D.... gotta make sure MBS doesn't wear off ya know!

How long did it take? Just curious...

Used it all up Jim, one the foam temp was at 29c it only took 15 minutes to spray it all.

That's what the designers of the Titanic said too. DII, it does look good.

Hmmmmm, your right GA, but the Titanic didn't have foam in it. ;)

That foam is a beautiful thing!!

Your right DJ, and I love how easy it was.

Hey Glen,

Yah, I missed where you said that it was level enough to finish filling up with blue foam! That'll be nice from a floatation standpoint and solid enough for the floor.

Re: 1986 ss 201

Finaly got a little time with out my work phone this weekend to make a little progress. I have the floor installed and secured with rivets, the fourth and final coat of spar varnish is on it. I was able to get another 30sq feet of 2"blue foam and 8 pool noodles under the floor before I closed it up. I wil post up some photos later today of the floor and another box of goodies that came in the mail.

Picture of the hardware that arrived, found a great new Canadian Supplier, with free shipping and no duty.

Motor box hinges and lift handles, six gang switch and breaker panel.

Thanks DJ, I will be using the Nautalex on the sides, then redoing my upholstered side panels.

Please document your glueing process and any tips you may be able to share. I'm still undecided, carpet or vinyl....

Hey Glen,

Looks terrific! I can imagine that doing the cupholder area on the dog house would be challenging! Nice to see you were able to get some forward motion this weekend... still have your snow there... or has it all melted?

Re: 1986 ss 201

Okay, real bad weather here the last couple days so work was limited, which meant boat time.

I almost met my match putting the vinyl on the front for the rear deck, the inside corners on the compartments were a real @#$#$% to say the least. I screwed up close to 3 yards of material in my first two attempts. An hour and a half away in Swift Current there is an Upholstery shop with an awsome owner. I have purchased supplies from him for the other projects and he said if I ever need help to give him a call, well needless to say his help was priceless. Kudos to Fredricks Upholstery.
This is the piece and a brief description on how I did it for thoses attempting thier upholstery. The first two pictures are the completed piece.

The next two are the back side showing how it is fastened.

The trick, or move appropriatly tricks are as follows.

Begin by cutting your vinyl to fit allowing at least two or three inchs to pull it tight around the part. Start by stapling the perimeter about every four inches, this will allow you to pull out any wrinkles left from the opening after it is done. Next cut out the excess vinyl in the opening leaving at least three inches all the way around, in the corners cut a V shape relief to within an 1 1/2 of the ply with the wide part of the V in the center of the corner. Now spray some 3M spray 90 on the vinyl and the ply let it set up for a minute, then pull the vinyl tight in the straight areas between the corners with a couple staples in each. Next slide the whole piece to hang over the edge of the work table and using a heat gun on the low setting gently heat the vinyl from underneath while holding the corner V cut out with your thumb and fingers. You will feel the vinyl start to give, the best part of this is you can't over heat it cause if it's to hot on your thumb it's to hot for the vinyl. When you feel the vinyl give enough to pull it tight around the corner put the heat gun down and pull it real tight and staple. Work the whole corner this way and you will be real happy with the results. After you are done all the corners, finish around the outside, pulling any excess material and wrinkles out as you go, you may have to pull a couple of the staples to get more pull but have at it. Hope this helps some of you.

Re: 1986 ss 201

Here is the last of the rear deck front, the old one had pieces of plywood cut for the hatch to sit against and lock to. These were rotten and warped real bad so I replaced them with some left over puck board, as it will last forever. I cut them out a little neater than the origionals and fastened them with #10 SS screws coated with 4200 to seal the holes and act as Locktite, so to speak.

And finished

I have the hatches cut, fitted and sanded, they are drying with the second coat of spar varnish. I am hoping to get them vinyled tomorrow and installed.

Looks real nice, DII. It;s always good to have a wall to bounce the ball against. And having a pro to volunteer help/advice is priceless.
