Re: 1986 ss 201

Up front, perfect spot for the juice holders!

I really like this build.
It's definitely giving me ideas! :D

Thanks Jason, DH83

Hi Glenn, you're still keeping the starting battery in the Stern correct? If not, you're going to need a honkin' cable to make that 20'+ run (knowing you, it's probably already there!)

EDIT: I just realized what TM stood for...nevermind; this is the ideal setup for the BMTM :)

That's right the starting bat is in the port rear compartment.

Great battery solution, DII. Probably one of the best! :D

A couple of solar charger Qs. Will the solar panel charge the SS and 5th wheel at the same time? Does the travel trailer have a genny you could plug the SS into? I'm asking because I always read that a solar charger can help maintain a charge but they have trouble re-charging a drawn down battery. That's the little solar panels, do you have a large panel on the RV?

Thanks GA, I have one 85 watt panel now and am going to ad a second. I have two 140 amp hour bats on the fifth wheel now 104lbs a piece and they never go below about 12.4 volts even after two weeks at the lake. With the second panel my Battery guy says if I run the two TM bats down 50% on the SS, it will take 4 days to bring them back up with one panel and less than two days with two panels. I don't use the TM that much but if I do I could bring my generator to bring them up faster.

Okay, as off right now, battery install is done( one switch left to bolt in) HIN tag is on, CG capacity Plate is on, Cleaned, polished and Armoralled everything.

I'M calling this one COMPLETE :whoo:
As complete as one of us can call a project.

Still have to make a bra for the bow for trailering on the gravel, but that's not part of the boat.

Tomorrow will engine run up prior to the Splash May 10, cus May the 3rd I'm off to meet Gibbles to pick up the next project.

Actually GA I'm going to take a break for a while. All I've done for the last two years or better is rebuild boats. I'm going to have fun at the lake and watch Clist for deals. I want to build up an inventory of good hulls for rebuilding as my retirement plan. LOL

Hey Glen, Congratulations, but we know you're not finished with that SS 201 always something more to do or add, excellent spot for the batteries, looks like it was custom made for them, I have a question the cable you used is it battery booster cable looks like it, the reason I ask is I was going to use 8 guage booster cable for my trolling motor 55 pound cavitation mount minnkota and the battery is front center, just wasn't sure if it was heavy enough.

Congrats on getting it complete. Just a few short weeks and you can be on the water. Putting the batteries under the floor looks good, nice and tidy and out of sight.

Thanks John, I used 4 gauge welding cable for the leads to the trolling motor, the bigger you go the better.

Congratulations Glen, congratulations to you buddy!

Re: 1986 ss 201

Poured some gas in the tank, two jerry cans of premium, (only way I could get non ethanol) $64.00 yikes. Filled the water separating filter, pushed the throttle 3 times turned it over, throttle again and the 4.3 came to life. Purrs like a kitten. The only issue is the tach is not working. I think it may be set on the wrong setting. Here's a couple pictures of her outside on the second nicest day of the year so far.

And my favorite, don't realize how big she is till she is hooked to the back of the truck broad side.

And a resurrected SS201 roars to life under waving Maple Leaf flags. :D And back to waiting for more than 2 feet of open water. You have to be itching (in a good way) to splash her!
