I'm down, I'll bring the ice and munchies haha.

Gives me an idea though I think I'm gonna hit the drawing board and plan a built in fridge install somewhere.

Re: 1989 Ski Brendella (boat restoration progress)

Hi all,
Just opened my own can of worms on my Brendella. Was vacuuming the carpet and noticed a soft spot on the drive shaft cover. Pulled back carpet and thought, no problem, I can fix that. Well after finding all the other bad spots I cut most of the floor out. Which of course led to more discovery. No I'm starting where Hilton did. Engine coming out today or tomorrow depending on how I pull it. My goal is 30 days. I'm not working much so I have the time. As long as that time does not cut into my kayak fishing time. I'm a m great full to have found this thread on the repair. I am very good at rebuilding anything from cars to houses so, one more thing here to add to the list of rebuilds. Let the fun begin.

Thanks for all the help and head start I gained from this thread, Rob

I just posted a question or two in the repair section. I did not want to thread jack with my own problems.

I created this thread in the hopes that it would help someone. I'm glad it was worthwhile.

I bought a tower for it and installed it today.

Excuse the pictures. By the time we finished it was dark outside.

I took a 1/16" piece of steel plate, cut it to size and drilled holes in it. I put it between the metal braces that came with the tower and the hull. I'm sure it's overkill, but it can't hurt. I only know it's 1/16" because I measured it so that I could tell you.

I was really worried that it would ruin the lines of the boat, but I don't think that it does. At least in the dark it looks really good.

We're going out on it tomorrow.

The tower looks awesome on the boat. I have been debating on adding one to my boat but have be hesitating for the same reason, I am afraid of ruining the lines of the boat. I might have to just pull the trigger and hope for the best.

Looks good. If you are not putting seats in for a while I can show you pics of mine when I get my boat put back together in a month or so. They will be in the stock configuration.

Re: 1989 Ski Brendella (boat restoration progress)

Hey guys,

The temperature is supposed to dip below freezing in Shreveport tonight. I figure I might as well take a few steps to prevent the block from cracking.

Option 1: Stick a drop light with a 40 watt bulb in it under the engine cover. Plug it in when the temp is scheduled to drop below 32F.
This option sounds like kind of a pain in the ***.

Option 2: Get all the water out of the block

Option 3: Replace the river water that's currently in the block with antifreeze of some sort.

What say you?!?

Re: 1989 Ski Brendella (boat restoration progress)

I have a PCM 351 ford in mine. On the side of the block down low there are two, one each side, pipe plugs that can be removed to let the water out. I replaced those with pet cocks so I can just open them to drain. Also on the water pump impeller there is a plug that you can remove to drain the water from there. Last plugs are on the rear of the exhaust manifolds. Pull those to drain the water from there too. After that there will be little to no water anywhere in the engine. You will be fine.

One night below freezing wont hurt. Many nights in a row with low day temps will/can cause problems.

Thanks Rob.

I ended up unhooking the inlet hose from the hull of the boat and connecting it to a container holding 2.5 gallons of coolant. I cranked the engine and ran it until all the coolant was sucked into the engine.
