BTW I didn't show you folks this pic, sorry, but I think it will solve the mystery of this engine being submerged or not. I only saw this Monday, and snapped a few pics, how could I not have seen this before....
pics not as clear as I would like, but I think you can see what I saw

Did you get the water out of the trim system yet? Before it corrodes things up.

Ahhhh, YUP!!!

I would plan on replacing the starter. Even if it works now, it's going to fail in short order from being submerged.

Alternator "should" have been high enough to stay dry.

If the trim pump was completely submerged it may be a basket case too, have to flush the system and see how it works.

The trim pump on my project boat worked, but was full of some type of sticky yellow gunk and I think it may have been submerged. I had to completely disassemble the pump to get it clean, scrub all parts with solvent and a brush as the sticky stuff wouldn't clean off easily.

thanks for the input..
The starter looks brand new, no rust. I and others believe that it is a replacement

The Alternator, has some rust on bottom half, and a little squeaky when I turn the pulley, probably will have to replace it, but hope I can use it for start up of the engine, on the ground.

The trim pump, I will get to remove that poo this weekend, see what it looks like

Sweet, someone bought you a new starter :D Gotta' to love that! (one thing to check off the list)

Try to capture the fluid that comes out of the trim cylinders and look it over... There is a steel tube inside the trim cylinders that could rust up. I'd want to see if the fluid came out 1/2 water and 1/2 oil, milky or clean.

How did the U-joints of the drive look, rusty or nice and clean (greasy is good too). With water that high, it could have gone into the U-joint bellows.

I will pay close attention to that tube you speak of, and let you know how it looked.
The water did make it to the u-joint bellows

Yeah, going to be nice once you're done with it. Interior looks great, outside of a couple popped seams.

What you going to do with the bellows, U-joints, gimble bearing, lower shift cable?

thanks wrench 3. I know I will be proud of it when I put her in the water for her maiden voyage, at my age that may take me longer than I think lol

thanks fishrdan, boat shows little use, on hull and interior, except for some sun damage to the darker blue vinyl material

Bellows, looks good, soft and pliable, and can't find any holes in it. The u-joint is ok, looks worse than it is, needle bearings feel good, no binding, and moves around without grinding. The lower shift cable seems to be ok, not damaged, and moves as it should

Well, here is an update
I was putting the engine back together, and was working on the intake/exhaust manifold gasket mating surface, and discovered this, crack in the exhaust port.I would like to know if it is repairable or replace? .I just want to use temporarily, to get the engine started. I can't afford a new one at the moment
what are your opinions?.( IMO I can repair this) ..if engine runs, and runs as it should, then I will invest in a new intake/exhaust manifold

Acetone Test?

I'd run a dremel back into the ports to see how deep the crack runs, if not into water then I'd test with it since it's just bridging 2 exhaust ports. I wouldn't use that manifold outside of testing to see how the engine runs.

Do some searching in the internet for the manifold. I found a clearance Barr manifold for my 140HP, for something like $150. (different manifold than your engine.)

Re: 1993 Mercruiser 3.0 new to me, with major problems, Not Running, Water mixed with

sorry, been raining here, and working full time I got to work on the engine all day.

I now have an update on my progress...

I have the engine back together, lifters adjusted per the FSM, and engine oil primed through the system. I have the wiring harness back on (did not leave it connected to the engine when I removed it) , and all connectors, connected back to the components which includes: ignition coil, distributor, purple wire to the electric choke also had a black ground to the choke housing, the red cable back to the positive starter terminal, Yellow with red wire back to starter solenoid, and the larger black ground wire grounded to a bolt on the bell housing.

note...I don't have a spare battery to use, for the remote starter rig. I will be using jumper cables from my Ford Edge battery, for this procedure, if this is possible? I know I can jump the starter this way, and have been doing that to help with the lifter/ rocker lash adjustments.

My questions are:

1. How do i wire the Momentary switch, that I bought for the starter, and the 0n/Off toggle switch for the coil, so I can try to start the engine

3. The distributor rotor is not pointing to the #1 cylinder when on TDC compression. It is pointing to about the 4:00 position. Is this correct the this year Mercruiser 3.0? . I have not removed the dizzy or disturbed the timing hold down, but someone else may have...I can remove the dizzy, and reinstall it if I need to tomorrow morning.

I just feel like it is in question, however I saw a picture of the same kind of dizzy that I have, and it shows the rotor for the #1 cylinder when on TDCC point to the 4:00 position, here is a picture of it....call me crazy lol..so i may have to change my firing order if this pic is correct
